About the role
Job Summary
Lead maintenance execution for Coal and Natural Gas electric generating station to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective power. This role owns day-to-day and outage maintenance performance—supporting planning and scheduling, preventive and corrective work, reliability improvement, budget, and execution of O&M / Capital projects. You will develop maintenance supervisors and craft professionals, partner closely with Operations and Engineering, and administer labor agreements to maintain a high-performing, safety-first culture.
Safety, Compliance & Environmental Stewardship
- Champion a safety-first culture; actively participate in site safety processes and ensure safe work practices are used for all maintenance activities.
- Ensure work is planned and executed in compliance with company procedures and applicable local, state, and federal regulations (safety and environmental).
- Direct timely identification and correction of unsafe conditions and equipment issues; ensure job hazard analyses and permitting requirements are met.
- Ensure maintenance supervisors consistently meet site safety and environmental standards and reinforce expectations through coaching and accountability.
Leadership, Labor Relations & Talent Development
- Provide clear direction, roles, and decision rights for maintenance supervisors, craft, and contractors to operate as a cohesive, professional team. Crafts include Mechanical, Electrical, and Instrument & Controls.
- Set performance expectations, review progress throughout the year, and recognize results; coach supervisors to strengthen leadership, technical capability, and cross-functional partnership.
- Lead and engage a represented (union) workforce; foster strong labor-management relationships, ensure consistent application of the CBA, and support a respectful, high-accountability work environment.
- Administer collective bargaining agreements and support effective labor relations, including issue resolution and consistent application of policies and work rules.
- Build and sustain a training culture; ensure supervisors and craft are properly trained and qualified to meet station operating and reliability needs.
Work Management, Outage Planning & Execution
- Own preventive and corrective maintenance planning, scheduling, and execution using the station’s work management process and CMMS (e.g., Maximo, SAP).
- Plan and lead maintenance outages from scope development through execution, closeout, and lessons learned to improve future performance.
- Monitor schedule, cost, and quality to ensure work is completed safely, on time, and within budget while meeting internal customer requirements.
- Remove barriers and resolve conflicts in scope, schedule, and resources to optimize overall station performance.
Reliability, Budget & Continuous Improvement
- Manage the maintenance budget; prioritize work based on risk, reliability impact, compliance, and total cost.
- Drive reliability improvement by partnering with Operations and Engineering on root cause investigations, corrective action plans, and long-term asset strategies for fossil/coal-fired generation equipment.
Projects, Contractors & Stakeholder Partnership
- Lead O&M and Capital projects and contractor work: develop scopes, manage performance, control costs, and ensure contractors meet site safety, quality, and schedule expectations.
- Participate in station emergency response and provide leadership support outside normal hours as operational needs require.
- May require travel to other generation locations to provide operational or project support, as needed.
- Respond to emergency calls outside of the normal work schedule, as required by station or system needs.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of leadership experience in a generating station or heavy industry environment (maintenance, operations, or engineering), including experience leading a represented (union) workforce, with demonstrated accountability for safety, budget, and schedule.
- Valid driver’s license is required.
- Working knowledge of CMMS and productivity tools (e.g., Maximo, SAP, Microsoft 365).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related technical field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Experience leading maintenance organizations in coal-fired generation, including outage leadership, contractor management, and labor relations.
- Experience with Natural Gas fired or peaking generation, including operations and maintenance.
