Currently, ManTech is seeking a motivated, career and customer-oriented Research Engineer, Electrical Powered Aircraft in DARPAs Tactical Technology Office (TTO). Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate a solid mix of academic background and applied experience in the development of hybrid electric propulsion systems and implementation in aircraft of varied size.
Responsibilities:
- Lead periodic (monthly or bi-weekly) performer assessments to analyze program, technical and schedule risks; develop risk mitigation strategies; communicate findings to program manager
- Technical evaluations and guidance on reports, briefings, and other performer communications
- Program administration, including development of technical analyses, identification of technology gaps, technical risk management, project cost estimation, technology transfer efforts, as well as supporting technical reviews
- Attending and organizing program reviews/site visits/field tests.
- Coordinate performer meetings, assess performer task progress and projected performer outcomes, and ensuring that project management best practices are followed both at subject performers, within the independent verification and validation (IV&V) activities funded by DARPA, and within DARPA itself.
Minimum Requirements:
Knowledge of aviation aspects for electric propulsion power distribution system.
High power density power electronics converter design, analysis, and control.
System design and management of energy storage solutions.
Knowledge about power electronics (i.e., DC/DC converters, Battery, Inverter).
Modelling and evaluation of electrical power distribution architectures.
Desired capabilities and characteristics:
An applied background in aerospace systems and architectures is a plus.
Familiarity with aerospace regulations and certification standards is also desirable but not essential.
Education:
PhD in Electronics Engineering, with 0-2+ years of industrial or academic experience
OR a Master’s degree with 2-5 years of experience in industry or academia
OR a Bachelors with 5+ years of experience.
Clearance: Active DoD Secret, but eligible to apply for TS/SCI.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50%
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer.
- The person in this position frequently communicates with co-workers, management, and customers, which may involve delivering presentations
