This job is primarily responsible for operating heavy machinery such as friction/hydraulic cranes, tractor/loaders, bobcat and/or overhead cranes.

In this job, you will:

  • Fully participate in the company Safety Program and attend daily pre-shift meetings.  Responsible for personal safety and that of his/her fellow crew members.
  • Perform all duties within compliance of OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations; including wearing appropriate PPE for task being performed.
  • Receive truck, communicate with driver and collect applicable information upon delivery.
  • Direct truck drivers backing vehicles into loading bays, cover, uncover, and secure loads for delivery.
  • Perform general clean-up including sweeping, shoveling, washing, painting and other general housekeeping responsibilities.
  • Complete documentation timely, accurately and legibly.
  • Dependent on facility and location, may be responsible for any variety of the following: loading and unloading of trucks and performing preventative maintenance and/or repairs.
  • Determine load weights and check them against lifting capacities in order to prevent overload.
  • Move levers, depress foot pedals, and turn dials to operate cranes, cherry pickers, chain slings, or other moving equipment for lifting, moving, and placing loads.
  • Inspect cables and grappling devices for wear and install or replace cables as needed.
  • Clean, lubricate, and maintain mechanisms such as cables, pulleys, and grappling devices, making repairs as necessary to prevent malfunctions and damage. Check fluids, hydraulic systems, alarm system, and rigging (chain slings).
  • Direct helpers engaged in placing blocking and outrigging under cranes.
  • Review daily work and delivery schedules to determine orders, sequences of deliveries, and special loading instructions.
  • Set and remove material handling Bobcat in Barge.
  • Report any illness, injury, and unsafe situations to the Foreman.
  • Report all equipment failures to the Foreman.
  • Mentor other potential operators.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Here's what you'll need to be considered:

Education

Required - High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience

Required – None.

Preferred - 1 year experience working in an industrial environment with a dependable work record.

                   3 – 5 year’s operating hydraulic/friction cranes.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of computers and applicable software.
  • Intermediate mathematical skills.
  • Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of people within and outside the organization.
  • Ability to analyze problems and offer solutions.
  • Ability to follow directions and use logical through process to interpret oral and written instructions, and troubleshoot problems.
