About the role

Experience & Requirements

  • Graduate of an Accredited Nursing School required, and must be a master’s level Registered Nurse, registered in Maryland.
  • Current, unrestricted, non-probationary status license as a Registered Nurse in Maryland.   
  • Current Basic Life Support/CPR Certification at the Medical Professional Level with AED Training. American Heart Association is the preferred source, but American Red Cross is acceptable.
  • Specialty certification in correctional healthcare is desired (Certified Correctional Health Professional: CCHP, Certified Correctional Health Professional Nurse: CCHP-RN).
  • 5 years clinical healthcare experience required with a minimum of 2 years in a correctional healthcare setting.
  • At least 2 years of clinical operations management experience required preferably within a correctional health setting.
  • Knowledge of accreditation standards (NCCHC, ACA & state-specific) as well as experience with quality improvement programs and clinical auditing preferred.
  • Knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint and PowerPoint required.
  • Ability to travel up to eighty (80%) to correctional facilities, regional offices, client and/or other vendor sites and flexible work hours required.

A background check, security clearance and drug screening are required for this role.

Responsibilities

Below is a list of your responsibilities as a Statewide Director of Nursing with YesCare

Alabama Regiobal Office located in Mongomery, AL 

  • Participates in the recruitment, interview and selection of key nursing staff, including RDONs. Identifies high potential nursing talent for development, promotion and succession opportunities.
  • Provides consultation and support to staff as needed, including being available for staff to debrief about difficult situations.
  • Oversees the Professional Development and training of all nurses; ensures appropriate supervision of all nursing team members.
  • Participates in the performance management process of Regional and Assistant DONs to include coaching, feedback and disciplinary action.
  • Assures performance reviews are completed annually for staff under his/her direct supervision, including establishing specific, individual professional development goals.
  • Monitors compliance with YesCare’ s and DPSCS’ employee standards of behavior. Compliance includes but is not limited to the maintenance of a working environment and personal appearance, dress codes consistent with professional responsibilities and development of harmonious working relationships.
  • Provides documentation on the delivery of nursing services and reports data and statistics to the Vice President of Operations, DPSCS DON, and others as requested. Such information will be reported monthly, quarterly or annually as required.
  • Sets an example of absolute patient care focus for nurses within their region and expectation for exemplary professional nursing practice ownership.
  • Participates in the continuous quality improvement programs for care delivered across the regions
  • Attends and participates in monthly and quarterly multidisciplinary Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Committee meetings in each service delivery area (SDA) when possible.
  • Shares information gathered at the quarterly area multidisciplinary CQI Committee meetings with the Utilization Management Medical Director to be used at the Statewide Quarterly Multi-Disciplinary CQI meetings. These Quarterly Statewide Multi-Disciplinary CQI meetings will include updates on infectious diseases within the various SDAs that include outbreaks, care for each disease, program initiatives, and other appropriate disease topics that can lead to improved quality of care in the SDAs.
  • Ensures implementation of corrective action plans, tracks completion of all Corrective Action Plans; evaluates their effectiveness; ensures documents and reports of all activities in Committee minutes are submitted to the DPSCS DON as part of the Contractor’s regional monthly and quarterly multi-Contractor CQI meeting’s reports; and monitors and updates compliance with any consent decree. In collaboration with the regional and facility leadership, monitors grievances related to nursing care within the facilities in the region and addresses as required.
