About the Opportunity

The Corporate Accounting Group has an immediate opening for an Accountant, reporting to the Accounting Supervisor. Working on a small team of Accountants, you will support general ledger accounting for the fifth district, including the Board of Governors’ accounts, and payroll and benefit accounting for the System. You will be responsible for daily accounting activities, research solutions for identified accounting issues, with a goal of ensuring accuracy and operational timeliness of the execution of the operational tasks. 

What You Will Do:

  • Prepare, review, and analyze accounting records, financial statements, employee payroll data, and other financial reports.
  • Develop and reconcile ledgers, verify expenditures, identify and address discrepancies and irregularities, and implement solutions as appropriate.
  • Analyze business operations, trends, financial commitments and obligations, and projects future outcomes.
  • Complete a variety of routine and complex payroll, accounting, and budgeting functions ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) standards, Federal Reserve policies, and best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications:

Intermediate:

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years working with GAAP.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required.

Senior:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience at the Senior level.
  • Minimum of 5 years working with GAAP at the Senior level.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • CPA preferred at the Senior level.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply Financial Accounting Manual (FAM) guidelines and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP.)
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving ability appropriate for subjects and issues of moderate complexity
  • Acute attention to detail with a high degree of data accuracy and integrity.
  • Strong oral and written communication, ability to interact on required information and concepts with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with people at all levels of the organization
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint along with various other software applications as needed for the role.
  • Ability to provide accurate training and guidance on financial compliance and use of accounting/financial tools
  • Under limited supervision, performs general accounting activities including the preparation, maintenance and reconciliation of ledger accounts and financial statements.
  • Prepare moderately complex forecasting, variance analysis, budgeting, compliance testing, and other ad-hoc or specialty reports to monitor or support financial operations.
  • Perform moderately complex control functions, verifies data, reports, and contracts to ensure compliance with applicable legal standards and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) as well as organizational policies, assists testing of automated accounting/finance systems, participates in SOX/COSO testing.
  • Provide moderately complex guidance/service to other departments experiencing accounting and control issues, may assist with efforts to increase departments’ understanding and compliance with accounting practices and principles, including development of materials or supporting knowledge transfer.
