Occupational Therapists help patients regain their health and independence by focusing on upper body strength, fine and gross motor coordination, and activities of daily living (ADLs) like dressing, eating, and bathing. They also provide education and support for patients and their families, including home safety recommendations. In this role, you will be working in an outpatient environment, floating between Stuart and Hobe Sound to provide coverage as needed for vacations, leaves, and patient volume fluctuations. PRN therapists may transition to benefitted part-time or full-time positions as they become available. Once in those positions, there are paths toward clinical leadership or specialization. A PRN caregiver in this position works an average of 25 hours per week, Monday-Friday, from 8:00AM – 4:30PM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Provide occupational therapy services such as P/ROM, joint mobilization, massage, myofascial release, desensitization techniques, dressing changes and job simulation to clients with upper extremity injuries, disease or disability.
Provide evaluation for clients not limited to joint assessment, musculoskeletal functions, sensorimotor skills, functional and work abilities.
Develop a treatment plan based on data collected as well as implement, monitor and modify the plan to achieve goals.
Utilize thermal and electrical physical agent modalities not limited to providing hot/cold packs, fluid therapy, paraffin/contrast baths, ultrasound, phonophoresis, TENS, NMES, HVPGS, iontophoresis and biofeedback.
Fabricate custom splints, select/order adaptive devices/equipment and train client in use.
Communicate effectively with physician, rehab nurse, case manager, employer and family members regarding client's condition to ensure consistent quality occupational therapy services.
Provide a written status report to referring physician each time a client is to see their physician and to other appropriate parties when there is a workman's comp case.
