Denver Botanic Gardens is currently seeking a Full Time Associate Director of Safety and Security in our Operations Department! Read below to see if the requirements might be a good fit for you:
Position Summary
This position is responsible for leading Operations Security and Safety Programs at the Gardens including safety and security for the public, staff, asset protection, art exhibit protection, public and private events, and crowd management at large events at all Denver Botanic Garden venues. This position also provides ongoing safety training to staff in coordination and collaboration with vendors, the community, fire code and emergency services.
This position leads a team of safety and security staff, ensuring best practices and highest standards are upheld at the Gardens, and that staff and guest safety is top priority.
This position may serve as Manager on Duty for special events and concerts.
Requirements
General Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborates and closely works with Director of Operations on all job duties, communications, trainings, contract oversight and events.
- Ensures the continuous operations of all security systems for the Gardens in partnership with Operations leadership. This includes fire systems, elevators, and contract security.
- Ensures positive and pleasant visitor experience in conjunction with the safety of Denver Botanic Gardens.
- Oversees Security/Safety in support of the Gardens and departmental objectives.
- Ensures scheduling and supervision of Security for 24/7 coverage, including but not limited to hiring, coaching, and training.
- Oversees the timely and effective delivery of training, not only for Security staff, but also for all Gardens employees on various safety and security topics including legally mandated trainings.
- Ensures appropriate cross-training in areas of security, conflict, and crowd management.
- Leads with a ‘hands on’ approach to improving, establishing, and maintaining an effective security/safety program for all Gardens venues.
- Collaborates with all departments, develops, and implements practices to enhance and improve the Gardens security systems.
- Provides Operations Associate Director level presence at concerts and all other special events.
- Communicates closely with Operations leadership, custodial and technical staff to ensure repair, replacement, and upgrades. Maintains inventory of access and surveillance system components, staff, and public access.
- Establishes, implements, and maintains current versions of all documents including emergency procedures, post orders, standard operating procedures, incident report forms, fire systems and elevator monthly checks, key requests, FOB tracking.
- Reviews, updates, and improves Post Orders, Incident Report Forms, Emergency Response plans for each Gardens site.
- May design and deliver regular staff and contractor trainings to ensure constant, consistent understanding of procedures.
- Updates all staff distribution and trainings on the Emergency Response Plans.
- Schedules and tracks fire and evacuation drills and staff training to include safety processes.
- Schedules annual driver safety, bi-annual CPR and First Aid trainings as required.
- Provides oversight and serves as primary point of contact for security contracts: sets standards, ensures safety and security vendors are appropriately identified, selected, and managed against contractual and performance standards.
- Responds to after-hours emergencies, and 24x7 building security alarm systems.
- Conducts and documents regular and periodic assessments of security of facility and assets.
- Provides risk assessment input and support during the annual or renewal of insurance coverage to include formal notification in the case of an insurable or potentially insurable event.
