Electrical Design Engineers are responsible for engineering designs and ensuring that they meet all project requirements. They are responsible for reviewing production specifications, modifying equipment settings, and facilitating design concepts.
Those in this position should be well-organized and pay close attention to detail while taking care to avoid errors before shipping and distributing final products. They must work well with other engineers to share progress and complete projects within specific time frames. However, the engineer should also work well on their own. Strong communication and multitasking skills are also important in order to work on multiple projects at once.
Electrical Design Engineers must follow strict safety protocols, respect ISO standards, and maintain training materials to prevent on-the-job accidents. They also write detailed reports based on their observations and report their progress to upper-level managers within their companies. They regularly participate in design/engineering meetings to suggest ways to improve production and performance while using fewer company resources. They also provide design support to internal and external customers by facilitating specialized aspects and expertise in different engineering concepts, as well as design and implement engineering methodologies to maintain consistency.

Responsibilities
- Must have knowledge and experience with automated production equipment.
- Performs engineering calculations with respect to power consumption, current capacity, shielding, signal integrity, risk assessment, etc., as related to automation machinery designs.
- Formulates and produces a complete electrical design package, which includes detailed schematics, cable routing diagrams, panel layouts, bills of materials, and material requisition forms, based on standard specifications and the customer's requirements.
- Determine root causes of failures using statistical methods and recommend changes in designs or processing methods.
- Provide technical expertise or support related to panel manufacturing.
- Troubleshoot new and existing product problems involving designs, materials, or processes.
- Communicate manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, or other information to facilitate production processes.
- Ability to design electrical controls and program automated equipment from initial conception through completion.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD to develop and design control systems, including hardware selection, wiring diagrams, panel design, and bill of materials (BOM) development.
- Must be familiar with a variety of HMI and PLC platforms, such as Siemens and Allen Bradley.
- Evaluate manufactured products according to specifications and quality standards.
- Coordinate the schedule and production of drawings, and incorporate them into existing drafting systems.
- Confer with vendors, staff, and management personnel regarding purchases, procedures, product specifications, manufacturing capabilities, and project status.
- Compliance with industry codes, project requirements, and safety regulations.
- Consult or negotiate with clients to prepare project specifications.
- Analyze technology, resource needs, and market demand, to plan and assess the feasibility of projects.
- Continually increasing knowledge in regards to PLC controls and robotic programming.
- Prepare Sequence of Operation as part of documentation provided to customer.
- Prepare Book of Controls as part of documentation provided to customer.
- Work in conjunction with Mechanical Engineers and Service Engineers to resolve any issues.
- Must possess strong problem solving skills (including SPC, Kaizen and root cause analysis)
- Consults regularly with Project Managers to report status, raise issues, take direction, and assist where able.
- Presents designs during internal and Customer project reviews.
Competencies
- A bachelor's degree in an engineering-related field is required for this position, and prior electrical design experience may be required, as well. Industry and leadership certifications are beneficial.
- AutoCAD, MS Office.
- Some travel required (Domestic and International) (up to 50% of the time).
- Excellent industrial controls aptitude.
- Must be capable of performing duties with limited supervision.
- Oral and written communication and presentation skills.
