Principal Engineer

Resource Innovations is seeking a Principal Engineer to join our growing team in Des Moines. As a Principal Engineer with Resource Innovations, you will support the delivery of energy efficiency programs in Iowa and Northern Illinois ensuring engineering excellence.

• Provides program-level support to the client, customers, and contractors.
• Forges and maintains excellent client relationships to position Resource Innovations as a go-to provider of engineering services.
• Develops and reviews energy efficiency project deliverables which include: assessment reports, energy calculations, and measurement & verification data.
• Performs energy efficiency calculations by using spreadsheet and/or energy simulation modeling.
• Produces high quality deliverables (reports and spreadsheets) with limited QC review.
• Provides the highest level of customer service, including reliability and responsiveness.
• Provides advanced technical direction to other staff. Mentor and train junior engineers on various energy efficiency areas, including energy auditing, inspections, and measurement & verification.
• Delegates and oversees the quality and timeliness of multiple project deliverables performed by other engineering staff.
• Maintains the highest level of quality control for deliverables (for your work and others); demonstrating technical excellence, objectivity, and clarity while maintaining and advancing projects.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s or master's degree in mechanical or similar engineering preferred; PE preferred or intent to pursue. Relevant work experience will also be considered.
• A strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems and principles; including HVAC, lighting, motors, thermodynamics, fluids, and heat transfer.
• Minimum 10 years of experience within the energy efficiency or building efficiency industries.
• Strong customer relationship skills.
• Experience reviewing the work of colleagues and/or contractors.
• Proven time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects at once while meeting deliverable deadlines and budgets.
• Must be able to travel to locally up to 20% of the time.
• Experience in the following areas is a plus:
  • Energy auditing
  • SEM coaching and multivariable regression energy modeling
  • Providing and/or overseeing retro-commissioning services
  • Design and specification of HVAC, electrical, or building automation/controls
  • Building and energy modeling/simulation tools (e.g., eQUEST, EnergyPlus, Trace)
