Description

We are a high-performing, fast-growing personal injury law firm located in the heart of Newport Beach, dedicated to fighting for justice on behalf of injured clients. Our firm is known for exceptional results, a client-centered approach, and a strong culture of professionalism and accountability. We are seeking a strategic, experienced, and results-driven Chief Financial Officer to lead our financial operations and support continued growth.
 
 The CFO will oversee all aspects of financial strategy, reporting, planning, and operations. This role requires a strong background in law firm or professional services finance, with a strategic mindset and hands-on leadership. The CFO will work closely with the owner and executive team to develop financial strategies that enhance firm profitability, ensure operational efficiency, and support long-term growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with firm goals.
  • Manage budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Oversee cash flow management, trust accounting, and cost control.
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including IOLTA rules.
  • Collaborate with partners on compensation planning, KPIs, and case profitability.
  • Optimize billing, collections, financial systems and software.
  • Manage relationships with banks, vendors, auditors, and insurance providers.
  • Supervise and develop a finance team, including bookkeepers and analysts.
  • Participate in external strategic engagements, including industry events and speaking opportunities.
  • Identify and recommend strategies to mitigate financial risks and manage all insurance policies. 
  • Respond to inquiries from financial partners and stakeholders.
  • Provide strategic insight for growth initiatives, M&A opportunities, and new practice areas.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required; CPA or MBA strongly preferred.
  • Must have prior experience in a personal injury law firm setting, with working knowledge of marketing costs, operational expenditures, and revenue models specific to the industry.
  • Proven experience in data-driven performance analysis, including tracking and interpreting costs vs. returns across departments and individual staff in personal injury casework.
  • Strong knowledge of legal accounting, trust/IOLTA compliance, and case-based financial modeling.
  • Proficient in legal practice management and accounting software (e.g., Clio, QuickBooks, NetDocuments).
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to execute tactical plans.
