Under general supervision, promotes the City's strategic partnerships between local, regional, state or federalgovernments by monitoring legislation affecting the City of Dallas operations, coordinating citywide grants, and a varietyof special projects and initiatives from the Mayor and City Council.


Job Description
 

Overview

The Governmental Affairs Coordinator promotes the City's strategic partnerships between local, regional, state or federal
governments by monitoring legislation affecting the City of Dallas operations, coordinating citywide grants, administering census, and performing a variety
of special projects and initiatives from the Mayor and City Council.

Essential Functions

1 Monitors and tracks the status of city, state, and federal legislation that impacts the City of Dallas; evaluates and researches best practices across other cities and entities to ensure City policies remain up to date and effective.

2 Assists in writing grant applications and notifications that include narratives and budgets for distribution to management and City Council.

3 Researches and prepares white papers on a range of topics; presents information on census, shared economy, housing and urban affairs, transportation and infrastructure, public safety and public pensions.

4 Tracks and analyzes bills filed during legislative sessions and perform research necessary to prepare the City’s
position on proposed legislation; monitors expenditures and revenues to ensure funds are being spent in accordance with program guidelines.

5 Processes payments and create master agreements, contracts, purchase orders, and requisitions through the City’s software.

6 Assists leaders with joint fundraising and donation requests, and marketing strategies; attends meetings of other governmental entities and arranges the appropriate City representation at meetings.

7 Notifies and maintains contact with outside entities to ensure appropriate officials are present at City meetings and
functions.

8 Assists in preparing and creating progress and financial reports, memos, trainings, plans, and procedures necessary
to stay in compliance with city, local, state, and federal regulations.

9 Prepares presentation materials for intergovernmental meetings, council meetings, census training meetings, and other critical projects.

10 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

1 Knowledge of City organization and departmental responsibilities.

2 Knowledge of City Charter and other legislation that determines the City's authority and responsibilities

3 Knowledge of City government and related activities.

4 Knowledge of local, regional, state, and federal governmental entities

5 Knowledge of Project Management

6 Ability to prepare presentation materials for intergovernmental meetings, council meetings etc.

7 Ability to research and prepare white papers on a range of topics.

8 Ability to analyze and interpret research findings and conclusions.

9 Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

10 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

Experience

3 years of experience in Public Administration or Business Management, community organization and outreach or other related experience.

Licenses and Certifications

None

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Business Administration or other related field.

Equivalency

Degree in required field in progress and 4 years of required experience would qualify experience and education requirements.



Salary Range

 

$24.14 - $28.36
