About the role

The Opportunity

Ulteig is seeking a full-time Environmental Technician to facilitate environmental compliance with Federal, State, and Local regulations for public and private clients across all of our Lifeline Sectors: Transportation, Renewables, Power, and Water. Our goal is to assist clients with developing an approach to environmental compliance and due diligence that balances development with natural and cultural resources protection. Candidate will have flexibility to work from our office in Bismarck, North Dakota, and/or remotely from western North Dakota.

The Environmental Technician will support new and existing projects. Experience in environmental analysis, compliance, and public/stakeholder involvement is desired to prepare technical reports. The applicant will preferably have direct experience or exposure to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), wetland delineation, biological resources, and/or environmental due diligence surveys/documentation/approvals. This team member may have limited direct contact with regulatory agencies and clients. This person will also work with multidisciplinary project teams, with proven experience as a team player through the process. Candidate should be interested in expanding Ulteig’s client base and industry presence, while being responsive to our current client needs. The successful candidate must be detail oriented, have strong oral and written communication skills, and be able to prioritize and work simultaneously on multiple projects.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Participate in multi-disciplinary teams for the purpose of preparing reports (e.g., NEPA documents, wetland delineation reports, biological assessments, noise analysis, environmental site assessments, etc.) and environmental permit applications in support of projects for various industries and markets.
  • Review and interpret data as part of new or ongoing investigations, mitigation, or monitoring projects.
  • Participate in project field efforts (wildlife, botanical, water, etc.).
  • Communicate scientific and technical information to the project team.
  • Contribute to environmental reports and related materials.
  • Assist public and private clients with permit coordination, acquisition, and compliance.
  • Develop lasting professional relationships with current clients through quality client support.
  • Engage new clients through professional networking, marketing, and exceptional customer service and support.
  • Adhere to scopes of services, schedules, and budgets.

 

What We Expect from You

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in environmental science, environmental planning, environmental policy, biology, wildlife management, range management, natural resources management, or related field.
  • 0-3 years of related experience (advanced degree may count toward experience).
  • Basic understanding of relevant Federal, State, and Local regulations (e.g., NEPA; Endangered Species Act [ESA]; Clean Water Act [CWA]; Clean Air Act [CAA]; National Historic Preservation Act [NHPA]; Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act [CERCLA]; Resource Conservation and Recovery Act [RCRA]) as they relate to environmental review and approval/permitting of projects.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective time-management, written communication, analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and in team situations as well as establish strong relationships with other teams.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and applicable industry-related software packages.
  • Must have authorization to work permanently in the US.
