Department Summary

The Division of Student Life supports the university’s academic mission and strategic plan through comprehensive programs and services that promote and advance student learning and success while fostering an inclusive and vibrant campus community. Student Life includes four major portfolios: the Office of the Dean of Students, Experiential Learning & Engagement, Health & Wellbeing, and Division Administration. University Health Services (UHS) is a unit within the Division of Student Life and is a nationally accredited (AAAHC) outpatient clinic providing primary care to students at the University of Oregon. All staff are required to uphold the values of the UHS.

This position works in support of the University Health Services mission and vision and is consistent with UO policy. Some aspects of this position may be completed in collaboration with other University departments.

Position Summary

The purpose of this position is to assist University Health Services medical staff in providing primary care and acute care to students at the University of Oregon.

This position assists with the delivery of excellent patient care by assisting the UHS medical providers with patient scheduling, transporting, check-in, vital signs, in-office procedures, vaccinations, assigned administrative duties, and treatments within scope of practice. This position also maintains a safe, clean, efficient, and well-prepared environment. Work is performed in different locations throughout UHS in various clinics, examination, and treatment rooms and at the main reception desk.

This position reports to the Clinical Operations Manager for the Medical Services team.

Work Schedule:
This position works during the academic year. Employment of academic year employees may be extended into the breaks and/or summer term to meet the departmental and/or operational needs of the UHS.
Scheduled hours may include working some Saturdays and holidays, to meet the departmental and/or operational needs of the UHS.

Special Qualification:
• Current certification from a national certifying body for medical assistant/medical office assistant (e.g., American Medical Technologists, American Association of Medical Assistants, National Center for Competency Testing) as a medical aide or medical office assistant, or the ability to obtain by the agreed upon start date of employment.

This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and routine screening of Medicaid and Medicare Exclusion Lists. Employee loses eligibility for employment if on the List of Excluded Individuals and Entities (LEIE) and/or System of Award Management (SAM). In addition, employee must follow Compliance with UHS policies regarding tuberculosis screening, measles and mumps (MMR), seasonal flu, hepatitis B, and other immunization requirements.

Minimum Requirements

• Six months of experience providing health care support in a health care facility: OR
• Completion of a vocational training program in a health care support area (e.g., Medical Office Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant)

Professional Competencies

• Effective communication and customer service skills.
• Knowledge of electronic medical records and associated office software.
• Ability to work collaboratively with others in a team environ
