Brief Statement of Duties

Brief Statement of Duties: The Northern Michigan University (NMU) School of Nursing (SON) is seeking a Tenure Track Assistant or Associate Professor depending on qualifcations. This position involves teaching, research and service responsibilities. This position has a Medical-Surgical focus and requires strong clinical skills. This position is a campus-based position with responsibilities for teaching in the clinical environment (off-campus) as well as in the classroom. This position is not currently eligible for sponsorship.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education: Doctorate or equivalent terminal degree

Discipline/Degree Area:  Nursing, Education, or a related field

Required Specialized Training/Certifications:  The candidate must possess a current unrestricted State of Michigan RN license or have eligibility for licensure in the State of Michigan. Must have RN licensure in Michigan prior to the start date of employment. Must possess American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Certification.
The minimum degree requirement is an earned Doctorate degree in nursing or a Doctorate degree from an accredited institution, with a Master's degree in nursing from an accredited nursing school.

Required Minimum Work Experience: 
Assistant Professor:
Five years of experience as a registered nurse (RN)
Experience with medical/surgical nursing
Associate Professor:
Five years of experience as a registered nurse (RN)
Experience with medical/surgical nursing
Six (6) years of full-time higher education experience at the rank of Instructor or above
Evidence of teaching excellence and significant scholarly or creative professional achievements

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties: 

Ability to effectively communicate in writing and orally with students, peers, clinical affiliates, and administration.
Knowledge of curriculum development and delivery principles.
Ability to teach traditional face-to-face, clinical and lab-based classes.
Familiarity with accreditation process.
Evidence of ongoing professional development.
Evidence of relevant clinical work experience.
Ability to manage one's own time and that of others.

Additional Desirable Qualifications

Additional Desirable Qualifications: 

Experience with teaching and/or computer-assisted instruction in an accredited university setting.
Work experience in a clinical environment that trains undergraduate nursing students.
Experience with delivering content using active learning strategies.
Ability to teach across the nursing curriculum.
Experience with teaching clinical simulations.
Experience with technology used in the university setting such as learning management systems, office software, artificial intelligence.
Experience with online teaching.
Experience recruiting students.
Evidence of scholarly work.
Knowledge of Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education accreditation requirements.
