Charge Nurse (Emergency Department) - FT/72 Nights

About the role

Description

The Charge Nurse, in addition to the requirements of Registered Nurse (RN), will:

  • Responsibly direct patient flow in the Emergency Department (ED) during assigned shifts. This includes staff supervision during the shift, staff safety, the efficient movement of patients throughout the healthcare system. 
  • Serve as a clinical and administrative resource for staff. 
  • Promote communication at all levels. 
  • Assist in the education of staff as required. 
  • Support ED quality. 
  • Incorporate evidenced based practices. 
  • Delegate daily departmental tasks. 
  • Provide feedback to the ED director regarding departmental needs & staff actions. 
  • Ensure policies, procedures and protocols are adhered to and tracks deviations during the assigned shift. 
  • Maintain departmental expectations for respectful and equitable practice, collaboration, leadership, education, scholarly inquiry, quality of practice, professional practice evaluation, process improvement, resource stewardship and environmental health. 

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (preferred)
  • Experience as an Emergency Department Nurse
  • At least one (1) year conducting patient triage with the Emergency Severity Index (ESI)
  • Current Vermont State Professional Registered Nursing Licensure or current Professional Registered Nursing Licensure under the Nurse Licensure Compact (Multistate license)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) (within one year of hire)
  • Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS), HAZMAT or Mass Casualty experience, Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) (preferred)
  • Certified Emergency Nurse (preferred)
  • HEPA Mask Fitting
  • Must follow all immunization requirements as outlined in the Heath Care Worker Immunization Policy.
