About the role
Description
The Charge Nurse, in addition to the requirements of Registered Nurse (RN), will:
- Responsibly direct patient flow in the Emergency Department (ED) during assigned shifts. This includes staff supervision during the shift, staff safety, the efficient movement of patients throughout the healthcare system.
- Serve as a clinical and administrative resource for staff.
- Promote communication at all levels.
- Assist in the education of staff as required.
- Support ED quality.
- Incorporate evidenced based practices.
- Delegate daily departmental tasks.
- Provide feedback to the ED director regarding departmental needs & staff actions.
- Ensure policies, procedures and protocols are adhered to and tracks deviations during the assigned shift.
- Maintain departmental expectations for respectful and equitable practice, collaboration, leadership, education, scholarly inquiry, quality of practice, professional practice evaluation, process improvement, resource stewardship and environmental health.
Requirements
- Associate Degree in Nursing
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (preferred)
- Experience as an Emergency Department Nurse
- At least one (1) year conducting patient triage with the Emergency Severity Index (ESI)
- Current Vermont State Professional Registered Nursing Licensure or current Professional Registered Nursing Licensure under the Nurse Licensure Compact (Multistate license)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) (within one year of hire)
- Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS), HAZMAT or Mass Casualty experience, Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) (preferred)
- Certified Emergency Nurse (preferred)
- HEPA Mask Fitting
- Must follow all immunization requirements as outlined in the Heath Care Worker Immunization Policy.
