We are seeking a Senior Technical Writer (NDEC Scientist 3) to join our Redmond, WA team! The successful hire will have 5 years of professional experience in technical writing for environmental permitting and compliance in the infrastructure sphere. Come join us!
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- This position will serve a key role in improving the quality, clarity, and consistency of deliverables for our 40-person environmental group.
- The Senior Environmental Technical Writer will lead the preparation, editing, and quality assurance of permit applications, environmental assessments, and technical documentation for Sound Transit, WSDOT, and local agency projects.
- The writer will collaborate with scientists, engineers, and project managers to ensure products meet regulatory requirements and client expectations.

Minimum requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, communications, English, or a related technical field
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in technical writing for environmental permitting and compliance in the infrastructure sphere
- Experience supporting infrastructure or capital delivery projects, preferably for public agencies such as WSDOT, Sound Transit, or local municipalities
- Familiarity with NEPA, SEPA, and Clean Water Act Section 404/401 permit documentation
- Strong command of written English with attention to clarity, consistency, and tone
Technical requirements:
- Proficient in developing and formatting complex environmental deliverables including permit packages, technical reports, and regulatory correspondence
- Ability to work with interdisciplinary teams (e.g., biologists, engineers, planners) to translate technical findings into coherent, accurate, and agency-ready documentation
- Skilled in document version control, markup conventions, and QA/QC processes
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Bluebeam software; experience with SharePoint and collaborative editing tools a plus
- Familiarity with style guides and formatting standards used by WSDOT and Sound Transit
- Ability to interpret and organize environmental data into readable figures, tables, and appendices

- Ability to manage deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced, team-based consulting environment
- Comfortable receiving and integrating feedback from technical staff and project managers
- Proactive communicator who can flag inconsistencies and gaps in technical materials
- Strong interpersonal skills and a positive, collaborative attitude
- Interest in helping build groupwide best practices for environmental writing and documentation standards
Compensation:
$91,520 - $114,400 annually
The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the state’s law. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
