PhD must have been received within the past 3 years. This is a temporary training position that can be renewed annually, for a maximum of five years, based upon performance review, progress towards research goals, and continuation of funding.
Purpose
The Ehrlich lab is seeking a motivated postdoctoral fellow to study mechanisms by which myeloid cells promote progression of T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL). Our previous research revealed that heterogeneous myeloid cells become altered in leukemic microenvironments to support T-ALL progression. We are currently pursuing research to identify the underlying cellular and molecular mechanisms of myeloid-mediated T-ALL support, with the goal of designing novel therapeutic strategies. The postdoctoral fellow will design and implement in vitro and in vivo assays using mouse models of T-ALL and primary patient samples to identify myeloid cell types and associated signals that support distinct molecular T-ALL subtypes, and they will assist in analysis of single-cell transcriptional profiling data to develop novel testable hypotheses.
The Postdoctoral fellow will be encouraged to develop as an independent scientist within the collaborative and supportive environment of the Ehrlich lab. They will also have opportunities to gain mentorship experience working with our talented undergraduate and graduate trainees at UT Austin.
Responsibilities
Perform and analyze in vitro and in vivo experiments to determine how myeloid cells in the leukemic microenvironment of different organs promote progression of T-ALL.
Manage mice needed for experiments and freeze new primary T-ALL stocks and donor PBMCs.
Mentor and collaborate with undergraduate and graduate students carrying out T-ALL research.
Prepare presentations for lab meetings, journal clubs, and other external conferences/meetings; coordinate collaborative analysis of transcriptional profiling data with bioinformatics collaborators, prepare figures and write manuscripts to disseminate research to the scientific community.
Required Qualifications
PhD in immunology, cancer biology, or a related field and experience working with mouse models. The ideal applicant will have a strong background in immunology and/or cancer biology, experiments using genetically modified mouse models, flow cytometry and mammalian cell culture.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with flow cytometry, histology and immunofluorescence imaging, transcriptional profiling analyses (including scRNAseq), mammalian cell culture. Experience with gene expression analysis and immunofluorescence imaging is desirable.
Salary Range
$61,008 + depending on qualifications
