Responsibilities
Job Purpose
The position will lead and develop the team(s) to meet various obligations required for operating the Sunzia HVDC Converters and transmission facilities for Pattern Energy operating sites.
Responsibilities:
- Managing (2) HVDC Converter Stations, 500+ miles 500kV HVDC bipole transmission line, Telecom sites, (2) 345kV AC switchyard facilities.
- Ensure a positive working environment by maintaining discipline, morale, and employee relations. Prepare performance reviews, salary recommendations, and disciplinary recommendations. Manage the hiring and training of personnel on site.
- Oversite of OEM contractors, all contractors
- Responsible for all personnel on site. Enable teammates’ ability and awareness to work safely and stop work as required. Drive the injury free workplace culture by facilitating safe work habits, hazard recognition, risk assessment, peer to peer feedback, and proper use of human performance tools.
- Meet or exceed production and financial targets. Work closely with Asset Management and Accounting to manage P&L including budget planning, management and reporting.
- Understand customer and transmission service provider requirements to minimize customer impacts while ensuring maintenance service providers and regulatory entities are included in the annual outage planning process.
- Participate in joint operating committees with the transmission operator, transmission service provider and third-party maintenance companies to strengthen facility coordination.
- Monitor facility performance; investigate and correct abnormal conditions to maximize the value of the operating site/asset.
- Support warranty investigations and failure investigations with third party subject matter experts and the original equipment manufacturer.
- Manage facility and corporate procedures, policies, training programs, safety programs and work practices and related updates as required.
- In partnership with External Affairs, implement and maintain the facility’s Community Engagement Plan. Support community engagement through site tours, stakeholder meetings, and community events.
- Maintain regulatory compliance with all Federal, state and local regulations and associated permits. Ensure obligations are met using the CMMS and ERP tools.
- Additional tasks as determined by the Regional Director or Pattern Leadership Team
Qualifications
Required Work Experience
- Leadership & supervision in the high voltage transmission industry or military operations
- Basic project management and computer proficiency
- Must have knowledge and understanding of High Voltage and Extra High Voltage equipment such as circuit breakers, disconnect switches, instrument transformers and protective relays
Educational Requirements
BA/BS in engineering, business; related field or commensurate experience
Additional Requirements
- Must reside within 100 miles of the facility’s O&M building.
- Must have high voltage switching and grounding experience and have a good understanding of electrical safety.
- Experience with HVDC systems is preferred
- Candidates must be willing and able to work with high workloads in stressful conditions and in physically demanding settings while maintaining professional, non-confrontational behaviour and demonstrate the utmost ethical values. Examples include but are not limited to traveling, participation with switching/grounding, harsh temperatures, extreme driving conditions, various 24/7 working hours, and supporting other business units and locations as needed.
