Insider is hiring an Associate General Counsel, Labor & Employment to join our Legal team to advise talent and business leaders in the US and UK, on a broad range of employee matters.

The Role & Team:

As an Associate General Counsel, you will be providing concise and practical legal advice to the talent team and executives.

This role will be highly visible and interactive with all business units in the company and crucial in building on our strong employee and labor relations.

This role reports directly to the General Counsel and has the option to be remote and/or based in our New York City office. (remote/hybrid) 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise talent and business leaders in the US and UK, on a broad range of employee matters including, but not limited to, hiring/recruitment, promotions, performance and absenteeism management, leaves of absence, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, disciplinary actions, other restructurings, terminations, pay equity, worker classifications, and unions and other employee representative groups.
  • Advise team on union related matters and compliance with the CBA, including handling of grievances, arbitrations, and future bargaining.
  • Draft and review employment-related templates, contracts, agreements, and policies to align with applicable laws and global company policies.
  • Handle and partner with outside counsel on administrative charges, employment litigation and union matters.
  • Conduct or provide counsel on internal employee investigations.
  • Draft and revise commission plans, and advise on implementation and compliance with plans and related sales matters.
  • Lead or assist in internal audits for parent company compliance.
  • Inform the business of relevant new employment laws, best practices, and regulations that may have direct implications for the company.
  • Collaborate closely with in-house legal teams, talent departments, and external counsel across offices.
  • Proactively identify and assess potential risks and advise on risk mitigation strategies.  

The Ideal Candidate Has:

  • Juris Doctorate Degree.
  • Demonstrable experience of research, negotiation, drafting, and analytical skills.
  • Previous experience as a labor and employment attorney, preferably with some in-house experience. 
  • Experience working with media companies.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to provide accurate and concise advice.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, including remote settings and across time zones.
  • Ability to multitask and work well under pressure and strict deadlines in a fast-paced, high volume setting.
  • Effective prioritization and collaboration.

Salary & Benefits: 

  • Salary: $240,000 - $275,000 plus bonus (dependent on skills, experience, and competencies).
