Purpose
The position is responsible for providing a higher level of grant management responsibilities in the Office of Research in order to facilitate complex grant applications and promote new grant management processes. This position directly reports to the Assistant Director of Sponsored Programs Administration.
Responsibilities
Assists in the generation and submission of federal and non-federal grant proposals for assigned departmental constituencies. Interacts with partners in the department and OSP staff to execute pre-award activities. Once grant is award, partners with department and OSP staff to executive post-award activities.
Takes a lead role with large funding proposals such as center grants, liaising with research design personnel in the VPR office, specialists in the OSP office, and departmental administration. This also involves attending scientific planning meetings with the PIs and Collaborators.
Manages the communication of key deadlines & milestones to constituencies. Works with the automation of email reminders triggered by deadlines. With approaching deadlines, updates the entire team on completed and pending documents.
Orients new faculty and their teams on the grant submission process, provides support for grant submission planning meetings. Creates presentation material for orientation meetings, making key updates that align with new or revised policies.
Supports Sr. Grants Specialists with proposal/system troubleshooting, kick-off meetings for grants, and day to day administration.
Liaisons with OSP and OOR Research Operations to provide user-based feedback on the usage of UTRMS, Define, Cognos and other systems used by the SPA pre-award and post-award teams.
Other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of relevant grants and budget management experience. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with proven ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management and respond to faculty & staff tactfully, clearly, and concisely. Outstanding organizational and time-management skills. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and flexible when shifting gears between a wide array of projects. Can work independently & proactively, applying problem-solving skills in addressing new challenges. Strong grasp of required policies and procedures at the organizational and sponsorship levels, with attention to detail in producing quality deliverables. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
More than 7 years of grants and budget management experience. Previous experience in an academic medical center setting is a plus. Experience with pre-award and post-award grant management responsibilities. Ability to interface with faculty and administrators on a variety of grant-related topics.
Salary Range
$70,000 + depending on qualifications
Working Conditions
Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
May work around standard office conditions.
