Your Career
We're looking for a talented Principal Software Engineer to join the Asset Attribution team in the Cortex Xpanse Engineering group. In this role, you’ll help protect the world's most essential organizations by finding risks on the Internet that no one else can find. Our team is responsible for our asset attribution software, which allows us to mine massive datasets to map internet-connected assets using a human-in-the-loop machine learning classification system. We turn trillions of Internet data points into critical cybersecurity insights. Since our asset attribution software is used by Attack Surface Analysts within Palo Alto Networks, there is an ample opportunity to directly collaborate with the end users and collaboratively come up with innovative solutions that you can rapidly design, develop, and deploy.
You will be a technical leader within the team, with responsibility for mentoring and supporting your team members, building rapport with adjacent teams (to include other engineering teams and the end users), developing features from end to end, and supporting our systems in production. You will collaborate with the rest of the team on architectural direction, managing technical debt, and continuously evolving the team's agile development process.
Your Impact
- You will draw upon your experience to rapidly investigate and prototype new functionality built upon cutting-edge technology, then switch to implementation mode to deliver products built upon your findings
- You will design, develop and maintain asset attribution software as well as analyze existing services to identify barriers to scaling and implement the changes
- You will take ownership of projects, drive them to completion, and support them in production
- You will be working closely with product management teams to align efforts across the product and other engineers on your team to create designs to address these challenge areas and integrate new capabilities in the product
- You will represent the team in architecture roadmap planning sessions, interfacing regularly with other senior engineers, architects, and other stakeholders
- You will collaborate with the rest of your team on architectural direction, managing technical debt, and continuously evolving the team's agile development process
- You will facilitate product improvements through user feedback - Since users, Attack Surface Analysts, are inside the company itself, you will work directly with them to design new features, gather feedback, and iteratively improve the software stack
- You will interview, mentor, and coach new team members
Qualifications
Your Experience
- B.S. degree in Computer Science, similar technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience or equivalent military experience required
- 7+ years of experience in building and delivering scalable and resilient software systems
- Have a passion for innovation and writing software that boosts the productivity of other software development teams - excited to dig in, prototype, build, test, and see projects through to production - results-driven, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills and thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Exhibited an ability to be flexible and to adapt quickly to changes
