About the role

JOB SUMMARY:

Analyzes inpatient records for deficiencies for completion and meets bylaw/regulatory requirements. Verifies physician signature for the completion of transcribed reports, physician orders, and progress notes. Exhibits the F.I.R.S.T. values (Friendliness, Innovation, Respect, Service, and Trust).

                                                             

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Demonstrates the skill sets necessary to analyze/reanalyze inpatient records according to established departmental, by laws/regulatory requirements.
  2. Analyzes incomplete charts for deficiencies. Enters, updates, and completes deficiencies in the online deficiency system in a timely manner to facilitate a complete medical record.
  3. Demonstrates the skill sets necessary to recognize physician signatures to determine the correct physician to assign the record deficiencies for completion and to verify if the signature is correct for the completion of transcribed reports, physician orders, and progress notes, etc.
  4. Demonstrates an understanding of the required components of reports such as history/physical/discharge summary/operative reports to meet the requirements of bylaws/regulatory guidelines.
  5. Demonstrates the ability to audit charts for regulatory compliance for Performance Improvement activity.
  6. Demonstrates the skill sets necessary to act as a preceptor to train and evaluate skill levels of new/existing Associates cross training in the analysis section.
  7. Demonstrates the ability to maintain a consistent workflow to keep the inpatient analysis current to meet bylaw/regulatory requirements.
  8. Demonstrates the ability to enter data accurately when assigning the physician name/number to a medical record deficiency.
  9. Demonstrates the ability to manage his/her specific work area to allow access to reports/charts in process in a timely manner.
  10. Demonstrates the ability to identify potential problems and make recommendations with solutions.
  11. Maintains confidentiality of patient identity and protected health information by practicing HIPAA guidelines.
  12. Answers telephones, routes calls, takes messages, and provides routine information to customers promptly and courteously.
  13. Demonstrates the ability to use various computer software programs available for chart processing and viewing.
  14. Demonstrates a commitment to professional accountability and growth to maintain and expand knowledge and skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS, HAZARDS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

For extended periods of time must be able to work in a stationary position. Must be able to move or position 10 lbs. in weight above shoulder level for filing. Requires close mental and visual attention to details. Requires ability to concentrate for long periods of time while dealing with distractions. Stressful environment where variable workload must be completed with prescribed time frames using fixed staff resources. Must be able to read documents appropriately.

 

CONTACTS WITH OTHERS:

Patient, family members and significant others, physicians and Associates, other healthcare providers, community resource personnel, administrative staff and hospital support services.

 

EQUIPMENT USED/SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

Computers, fax machine, microfilm reader/printer. Demonstrated knowledge of filing systems. Good organization skills, with orientation to detail and accuracy; good oral and written communication skills; ability to relate effectively with the medical staff, ancillary departments, and business office staff.

Qualifications

One (1) year of previous general office experience.
