JOB SUMMARY:The Charge Nurse will be responsible for planning, organizing, and carrying out nursing care of residents. The job responsibilities include orienting, instructing, and supervising other personnel: CNA’s, CMA’s and resident care specialists. Carries out or assigns nursing duties to other personnel. The Charge Nurse complies with established policies and procedures and performs professional nursing duties within scope of licensure.

Keeps DON/ADON/Evening shift supervisor informed of resident status and other pertinent matters.

1. Admits and orients new resident and involves family with orientation. Check physician’s orders, transfer forms and pre-admission information. Reviews resident’s medical and social history. Completes admission and documentation forms. Make sure that residents supplies and medications are ordered and equipment is working properly.
2. Maintains proper documentation of facility records, i.e., narcotic records, medical chart forms and others, weekly skin assessment and updating wound pictures weekly as per the weekly skin assignment. Maintains weight and vital signs, and informs physician/DON/ADON and On Call Manager of any change.
3. Completes incident reports, Investigation Reports, notify physician, family members, informs DON/ADON and On Call Manager.
4. Discharges residents to the community/other facilities, transfers residents to the hospital, completes required forms/documentation. Sees that resident is escorted to transportation or transfer vehicle. Contact family prior to any transfers to hospital.

Requirements

Requirements

1. Graduate of an approved school of nursing .

2. Current nursing license in the state of Iowa.

3. Current CPR certification preferred.

4. One year of experience in a geriatric setting preferred but not mandatory

6. Knowledgeable with current changes in nursing practice.

7. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
