About the role

Reduce Tri-State’s risk of loss or liability associated with unplanned, unwanted fire. Responsible for the development, design and implementation of Tri-State’s Wildfire Mitigation Plan. Responsible for coordination with other departments whose plans are part of the Wildfire Mitigation Plan, including but not limited to coordinating and maintaining consistency between related department plans, programs, procedures and standards and the Wildfire Mitigation Plan.

Wildfire Mitigation Manager 
Hiring Salary Range: $131,000-$170,000

Actual compensation offer to candidate may vary outside of the posted hiring salary range based upon work experience, education, and/or skill level.

  • Develop overall strategy for implementation of the wildfire mitigation program. 
  • Monitor and assess the program to determine effectiveness and recommend and/or initiate adjustments as needed.
  • Provide support and guidance to Transmission functional areas in the implementation and interpretation of the Wildfire Mitigation Plan and other related policies, programs, procedures and standards.
  • Communicate strategic direction for the development, implementation and administration of wildfire mitigation. 
  • Coordinate and make the necessary additions, deletions, and updates to transmission wildfire mitigation standards, intervals, policies, practices and procedures to ensure that they follow NERC, Western Electricity Coordinator Council (WECC) and Midwest Reliability Organization (MRO) Standards and Requirements.
  • Develop scopes of work, manage contracts and associated budgets for wildfire mitigation planning.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure compliance with all applicable vegetation management requirements.
  • Coordinate with all transmission maintenance areas for consistent application of vegetation management practices.
  • Cooperate with other departments to develop, implement and provide training related to the Wildfire Mitigation Plan and related policies, programs, procedures and standards.
  • Develop, implement and ensure compliance with post-fire event investigation and evidence collection and preservation protocol.
  • Manage and direct the activities of Wildfire Mitigation Department personnel.
  • Represent Tri-State before regulatory bodies and technical committees, assist with education of agencies, landowners and members of the public regarding wildfire mitigation, including but not limited to vegetation management projects.
  • Prepare reports and special projects, as required.
  • Because Tri-State is an electric utility with continuous service obligations to its customers, regular, reliable, and predictable performance of the essential functions and responsibilities is an essential function of the job.
  • Because Tri-State has an obligation to provide continuous, reliable electric service to its customers, the ability to work overtime at any time of the day or week is considered an essential function of the job.
