About the role

<p>The Senior Engineer I or II is responsible for the activities related to an assigned organizational element, program, project, or task. He will be expected to plan, conduct, and supervise international multi-disciplinary technology projects with a focus on the development and implementation of emerging engineering systems and associated technologies. These projects, by nature of their complexity and difficulty, require the fully competent application of emerging R&amp;D knowledge and adhere to strict deadlines and a desire for product/service innovation.  Therefore, project work and assignments may be broad, requiring ingenuity and cross-functional coordination. ABS will be providing initial training. International travel for project meetings, going onboard marine vessels or to shipyards for projects requiring analysis and correlation with measurements may be expected.</p> <p><strong>What You Will Do:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Provides day-to-day leadership of technology and engineering staff assigned. Assigns projects to Engineers and monitors the progress of all assigned projects. Ensures the delivery of high-quality service and maintenance of good customer relations.</li> <li>Devises new approaches to problems encountered and makes recommendations for changes in methods, procedures, or design where necessary.</li> <li>Monitors the technical quality, content, consistency, continuity, and timeliness of action of all assigned projects.</li> <li>Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of technical responsibility.  Performs engineering reviews and analyses when necessary. Reviews other engineers' work and provides appropriate guidance and training when necessary.</li> <li>Prepares written responses to clients in accordance with established procedures.</li> <li>Maintains liaison with other engineering specialists internally and externally.</li> <li>Monitors the performance, development potential, and training needs of engineers assigned.  Keeps management informed of manpower needs.</li> <li>Develops or assists in the development of qualification statements, proposals, bids, and other presentation materials.</li> </ul> <p><strong>What You Will Need:</strong></p> <p><u>Education and Experience</u></p> <ul> <li>Postgraduate degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering </li> <li>At least five (5) years of related engineering experience in an R&amp;D group of a shipyard, a design/consulting office, or a classification society.</li> </ul> <p><u>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities</u></p> <ul> <li>Should have practical industry-related experience.</li> <li>Knowledge on maritime engineering systems (e.g. internal combustion engines, alternative fuels, alternative energies such as solar and wind for use in offshore and maritime domains).</li> <li>Knowledge of applicable Rules and Regulations and the impact of Rule applications and interpretations.</li> <li>Knowledge of company business policies and procedures.</li> <li>The human relations skills necessary to maintain positive client contacts and provide leadership and motivation to subordinate staff and peers.</li> <li>Ability to identify, analyze and solve complex or unique engineering problems.</li> <li>Ability to undertake short- and long-term planning to provide for efficient and effective scheduling of work assignments.</li> <li>Ability to communicate effectively in English verbally and in writing.</li> <li>Ability to obtain a working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management Systems.</li> </ul> <p><u>It Would Be Nice If You Had</u></p> <p>Professional or chartered engineer license.</p> <p></p> We set out more than 160 years ago to promote the security of life and property at sea and preserve the natural environment.
