Park Guide at Natural Bridges National Monument
Position Summary
Join us at the world’s first international dark sky park! Share the story of three majestic natural bridges that invite you to ponder the power of water in a landscape usually defined by its absence. This position will serve Natural Bridges National Monument by: 1) Increasing visitor service and satisfaction. 2) Providing resource presence and protection. 3) Increasing visitor appreciation of and knowledge about park resources.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Your primary responsibilities will be to staff the Natural Bridges visitor center to provide orientation, answer questions, and help visitors plan trips (50%); performing trail patrols, hiking and driving unimproved dirt roads in a government vehicle (35%); opportunities to provide interpretive talks/presentations and assist with youth education (10%); and assist with other projects (5%). Career development opportunities will be provided as time and interest allows.
Marginal Duties
Successful applicants will have: -Ability to work independently on assigned projects while being an engaged, collaborative member of a team; -Ability to self-motivate and actively look for ways to remain productive; -Ability to maintain a positive attitude and consistently be courteous and polite to visitors and youth; -Skill at oral communication and tactful discussion of controversial subject matter; -A valid state-issued driver's license and be at least eighteen years of age; -Due to the remote location, a personal vehicle is required
Required Qualifications
This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority. All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger. Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.

Living Accommodations
The housing will be a shared housing unit. You will have your own bedroom (queen size bed, dresser, nightstand, light) and shared living quarters (kitchen, living room, dining room, and bathroom). There are basic kitchen supplies and a washer and dryer in the house. There is also a separate communal space for the "neighborhood" where satellite TV and a DVD player (with many movies) are provided. There is also free wifi in the employee housing area.
Compensation
- $1,100 - one-time RT travel allowance
- $600 - weekly living allowance
- Free Housing
All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.

AmeriCorps: Eligible/Optional
AmeriCorps Enrollment Notice
This position may be eligible for AmeriCorps enrollment. However, the SCA has not yet received confirmation of a grant award for this program. If funding is awarded, you may qualify for an AmeriCorps Education Award. If not, you will serve in a non-AmeriCorps role with the same living allowance and benefits. If selected, you will be updated on AmeriCorps funding status before your start date.

Participant may be able to attend professional development workshops, lectures, and other programs related to conservation and stewardship in the Park as well as regional workshops in historic preservation, arbor-culture, etc. A professional development stipend is available to participant for such opportunities (must be approved by NPS coordinator).
General Physical Requirements
- Able to understand, adhere to, and communicate with others regarding hazards, procedures, and safety policies.
- Able to stay alert and engaged for extended periods of program time.
- Able to independently manage known medical conditions with the resources available throughout the position or program.
- Able to wear all required personal protective equipment, including internal or external, safety glasses, hard hats
