Reporting to the Sr Director, Procurement - Fertilizer, this position is key contributor to the overall success of the Canadian region as well as the SSM procurement team. The key focus of the role will be fertilizer position management, communication, and strategy across the region with the goal of margin improvement on over 1.5mm tons of commodity fertilizer products. The role will drive consistencies between divisions and regions by focusing on best practices within these three pillars: sales, purchasing, distribution/logistics. Additionally, the candidate will maintain and foster communication with internal general managers regarding market fundamentals, pricing, outlooks, and purchase recommendations. This role will focus their time on the Cornbelt Region (which encompasses Illinois, Iowa, and Missouri) but will have daily communication and strategy sessions with other areas of the country.
In fast-paced and highly active Strategic Supplier Management team with responsibility for developing/maintaining regional supplier relationships, market/risk analysis by division, IBP forecasting management, and market communication. The ability to understand and model supply and demand, market conditions, commodity pricing, and supplier intentions is very critical. S/He will be a key leader and interaction between business operations is key. The leader will need to have skill set to collaborate with our international team to drive synergies across business units and will be responsible for the following:
What will you do:
- Sales/Margin Focus:
- Obtain and distribute market intel for each division
- Determine weekly minimum sales price for each division by product
- Provide market and sales direction at each division/region sales and budget meeting
- Define new sales opportunities…bids, national accounts, direct to farm
- Ownership of regions annual fertilizer sales budget
- Participate in monthly division P&L reviews
- Purchasing
- Work daily with fertilizer product leads on purchasing decisions for all divisions and products
- Own IBP forecast for each division
- Manage and distribute Divisional Purchasing Dashboard
- Design and implement a fertilizer supply strategy for each division and region
- Collaborate on all fertilizer purchases for region
- Responsible for rebate programs with regional fertilizer suppliers
- Distribute and track all fertilizer rebates by division by product
- Direct procurement responsibility for Micro’s and specialty fertilizers
- Develop a region-specific supply strategy for local resellers
- Drive and create new SSM guiding principles with all suppliers
- Partner with internal teams to support and reinforce the Nutrien Best Ton strategy
- Distribution:
- Determine cost to serve for each branch/terminal/division
- Assist divisions on setting up region consistencies when dealing with terminals thru-puts, rebates, discounts, etc.
- Negotiate 3rd party warehouses agreements
- Work with Greenfield group to determine new opportunities for terminals
- Collaborate with corporate Supply Chain on motivating synergies between divisions and regions on rail, truck, and barge shipments
- Develop, lead and execute procurement strategy with suppliers, divisions, and regional fertilizer manager
