Software Safety Engineer (BT-25008)

The Software Safety Engineer - Junior will support the MSMAS contract in Huntsville, AL. The predominant function for the safety engineer will be to support hazard analysis for the Flight Software governing Artemis (SLS) and Human Landing Systems (HLS) programs. The Software Safety Engineer performs review and analysis of engineering design concepts, along with investigation and analysis of engineering data and software potentially affecting safe operation for stages of the vehicle as well as payloads. Additional tasks include integrated hazards analysis, providing safety inputs to software requirements/design/test and verification.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• The candidate will support creating or reviewing Hazard Analysis Reports for Flight Software.
• The candidate will support assessing the completeness of engineering software requirements.
• The candidate will support assessing the completeness of engineering hazard analysis and corresponding definition of causes and controls as related to software.
• The candidate will learn to perform assessments of FMEA, Hazard Analysis, and FTA products provided by engineering.
• The candidate will support development and implementation of safety engineering approaches assuring compliance with NASA safety polices and standards for hardware and software.
• The engineer must be willing and able to collaborate with engineering organization.
• The engineer must be willing to be mentored by senior team members.

• Must have a bachelor's degree in the field of systems engineering, aerospace engineering, computer engineering, computer science, software engineering, or a software-related field.
• Must have 1+ years of recent and related work experience.
• Must have basic understanding of software development and systems engineering functions.

DESIRED:

• Able to evaluate engineering for compliance with NASA-STD 7150.2x in accordance with NASA-STD 8739.8x.
• Familiarity with Mil-STD-882 and DO-178 Avionics Software Standard.

• Familiarity with complex electronics (e.g. ASICs, FPGAs) and programmable logic devices and their use in complex aerospace systems.

WORK LOCATION:

• This position offers a hybrid work schedule (3 days at MSFC).
• This position offers a 9/80 schedule, every other Friday off.
• This position may require some travel.
