The Opportunity
We are seeking a Senior Evening Managing Law Clerk, senior level to join our Firm. This position can be based in our Los Angeles or New York office and will be remote. The Senior Evening Managing Law Clerk will process electronic filings in state and federal courts, docket monitors, research assignments, service of process, document retrieval assignments, and Court Intelligence functions. Additionally, acts as a liaison for processing assignments between east and west coast Managing Law Clerk personnel. Los Angeles Hours: 4:00 PM – Midnight PT; New York: 7:00 PM – 3:00 AM ET.
- Reviews documents for rule compliance prior to service and filing.
- Files documents in various state and federal court jurisdictions.
- Identifies and distributes new action/proceedings commencement papers involving Firm existing and target clients.
- Answers procedural questions utilizing content compiled in the Managing Law Clerks Database.
- Executes Managing Law Clerks department goals and initiatives set by the Managing Attorney.
- Collaborates with manager and Managing Law Clerk personnel on daily operations—smoothly transitioning work from the day to night shift.
- Confirms filings, services process related documents, and documents retrieval requests are placed in the department database—ensuring department analytics retention.
- Provides accurate and timely responses to requests into the department and ensures high-quality work product that aligns with Firm values.
- Manages cases through vendor PacerPro, Public Access to Court Electronic Records (PACER), and other vendors utilized by the department.
- Monitors various local jurisdictions for new and updated rules, administrative orders, and internal operating procedures.
- Stays current on understanding Firm policies, industry trends, and professional development opportunities.
- Demonstrates effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to facilitate effective work relationships with others.
- Manages Firm resources responsibly.
- Complies with and understands Firm operation, policies and procedures.
- Perform other tasks as needed.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of conventional and electronic filings in various State and Federal courts
- Knowledge of Federal and State judicial rules
- Enhanced understanding of local state and federal court operations
- Knowledge of calendar software
- Keeps current with knowledge of industry best practices, trends and techniques
- Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills to facilitate high-quality work product
- Manages Firm resources responsibly
- Demonstrates close attention to detail
- Ability to manage cases through vendor PacerPro, Public Access to Court Electronic Records (PACER), and other vendors the Firm utilizes
- Ability to manage multiple projects, tasks and remain organized while prioritizing and delegating work
- Ability to handle sensitive material and maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work well in a demanding fast-paced environment
- Ability to exercise independent sound judgment
- Knowledge of relevant firm computer software programs (e.g., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), with the ability to learn new software and operating systems
- Flexibility to adjust hours and work the hours necessary to meet operating and business needs
Education And Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of five years' related experience and
