Work in this class is distinguished from higher classes by its emphasis on motor equipment operation and from lower classes by its highly skilled nature and coordination of other motor equipment operators.

SUMMARY
This is semi-skilled work operating one or more types of motorized equipment involved in maintenance and construction activities.
Positions allocated to this classification report to a designated supervisor and work under general supervision. Work in this class is distinguished from higher classes by its emphasis on routine semi-skilled operation and maintenance of motor equipment and from lower classes by its emphasis on motor equipment operation.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Depending on area of assignment:
Drives motor trucks to transport sand, stone, gravel, supplies, equipment, and other items.
Drives front-end loaders used to load dump trucks. Operates asphalt roller when building streets or alleys.
Operates tractor mower, bushhog, and/or belly mowers. Drives flat bed dump trucks.
Performs manual labor in assisting a variety of crews.
Performs scheduled preventive maintenance. Inspects assigned equipment and machinery and makes appropriate adjustments and performs light maintenance and minor repairs including checking vehicle fluid levels, chassis lubrication, brake work, filter change out and repairing/replacement of components.
Light cutting of damaged, diseased, obstructing, or unsightly tree limbs with minimum shock to the tree.
Drag infield and warning track, pack holes on pitcher mounds, home plates on the fields as well as bullpens, paint foul lines on outfield grass. Pick up trash around field. Chalk, water infields, paint bases, and take practice equipment off fields.
Apply chemical sprays to kill/control weeds or fertilize.
Sets up barricades and other temporary traffic control devices.
Attends work on continuous and regular basis.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
May drive or operate other pieces of light, medium, or heavy equipment or trucks in the absence of regular equipment operators or truck drivers.
May perform lead work in absence of crew leader.
May perform work of Maintenance Worker classification.
May frequently chauffeur other employees, depending upon assignment and work location.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job function satisfactorily. Below are the required education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and six months experience operating motorized equipment, or an equivalent combination of training and experience, which provide the required knowledge, ability, and skills.
