SENDCo
Location: Quidenham, Norwich, NR16 2NZ
Salary: £31,650 - £45,646 (M1 – UPS1)
Hours: 40 hours per week
Contract: Permanent
Aurora Eccles School:
Due to the expansion of our school, we are looking for two new SENDCos that will have up to 50% teaching responsibilities.
Part of the Aurora Group, Aurora Eccles School in Quidenham, Norwich provides day placements for students aged 11 to 16 years primarily with communication and interaction difficulties or specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia. Some may be on the autistic spectrum or have anxieties and difficulties that create barriers to learning.
With small classes, a maximum of 10 students and a minimum of 3 staff per class you can focus on the needs of each student. There is a clinical team onsite to support you and your students, and you will have the support of a very experienced and stable SLT.
We have approximately 220 students, all of whom have an EHCP. Each of our four SENDCOs will have responsibility for about a quarter of the students at any given time. They will work in a multi-disciplinary team to ensure each student is supported to make the best possible levels of progress in their academic and personal development goals.

Key Duties:
Teaching and Learning
- To be an exemplary teacher, modelling best practices
- To fulfil the duties of a teacher as laid out in our – Class Teacher Job Description
Recording and Assessment
- Support colleagues to operate recording and reporting systems where these relate to the children’s EHCP and interventions
- Collate and present assessment and performance data and share with staff and other professionals where appropriate
- Work within and refine systems for identifying, reviewing and monitoring need. This includes the management (chairing) of Annual Reviews for EHCPs
- Contribute to evaluations of the effectiveness of the provision and delivery of SEN support and interventions
- Keep parents informed about their child's progress through individual meetings as requested or when required
Leadership
- Ensure all members of staff are able to recognise and fulfil their statutory responsibilities with reference to The Code of Practice
- Provide training opportunities for colleagues
- Disseminate good practices across the school
- Identify resources needed to meet the needs of pupils and make recommendations about efficient allocation of resources
- Work alongside other leaders to strategically develop of SEN provisions, including reviewing and formulating policies
- To work with key staff on developing the effectiveness of transition
- Liaise with the outside professionals as necessary
- To keep abreast of developments in SEN (e.g. research, changes to the law)
- Support school self-evaluation and development planning processes

Skills and Qualifications
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a relevant subject
- QTS or QTLS (essential).
- Experience of teaching pupils with SEN and working from EHCP documents.
- Understanding of the safeguarding principles and child protection procedures.
- Ability to create and maintain strong nurturing relationships with young people.
- A flexible approach, a high level of creativity and the ability to adapt dynamically to meet needs as they arise.
Desired
- NPQSENCO (or equivalent), or willingness to complete training
- Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice
- Experience of working with young people with SEND, within a nurture framework.
- Experience of teaching across a range of subjects.
- Thorough working knowledge of the curriculum.
- Experience and knowledge of making adaptations to the curriculum for pupils with SEND.
- Experience of managing a range of approaches to learning, to include the students with anxiety and SEND.
- Experience of multi-sensory teaching.
Due to the rural location of the school, candidates are strongly advised to hold a full UK driving licence and have access to their own vehicle.
