Job Overview

The Seasonal Balloon Fabricator works as a crewmember on the Studio Balloon team, building and maintaining balloons for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and other company events. 

 

What You Will Do

• Build giant character balloons in balloon production.
• Serve as a crewmember for installations and inflations.
• Inflate, repair, test, paint, and maintain balloons.
• Collaborate with Macy’s staff on project planning and implementation methods.
• Perform additional tasks and duties as assigned by the Balloon Studio Manager.
• Ensure regular, dependable attendance and punctuality.

 

Skills You Will Need

Precision: Ability to perform precise work by hand in varying scales.

Technical Skills: Capability to read scale drawings and follow basic inflation instructions.

Sewing and Patterning: Knowledge and experience in sewing and patterning are advantageous.

Ballooning Knowledge: Understanding of ballooning, flight dynamics, and general aerodynamics is preferred.

Communication: Strong communication skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with Macy’s staff and the Balloon Studio team.

Teamwork: Must be able to collaborate and work well within a team environment.

Self-Directed: Ability to work with minimal supervision, demonstrating self-directedness.

Adaptability: Willingness to learn and expand skillset as required by the role.

Computer Skills: Basic proficiency in computer skills is necessary for tasks such as project planning and communication.

• This position requires heavy lifting, constant moving, standing, and reaching with arms and hands. Involves standing for at least two consecutive hours, lifting at least 50 lbs. stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders. May involve reaching above eye level. Requires close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
• Able to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on department and company needs. Able to work overtime to meet production deadlines.
• Able to travel as needed.
