Position Overview:

SUMMARY (BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB)

Plans, promotes, coordinates, implements and evaluates education activities directed to support employee wellness and safety according to Capital Health (CH) standards and policies. Supports all Capital Health (CH) employees who are at risk for workplace violence and distress at the workplace. Focuses on providing de-escalation, restraint and level of observation training to staff. Is also involved in the coordination of peer support services through the RISE program. Uses effective communication to promote a positive environment. Demonstrates advanced level of expertise through collaborative activities within and outside Capital Health (CH). Promotes patient, staff, and provider safety in a highly reliable organization.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:Master's degree in psychology, sociology, education or healthcare related field.

Experience:Three years experience within healthcare setting working with mental health patients. Previous experience as a trainer or educator.

Other Credentials:AHA BLS - Healthcare Provider

Knowledge and Skills:Effective verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of adult learning principles and classroom techniques.

Special Training:Strong presentation, facilitation, and group process skills.

Mental, Behavioral and Emotional Abilities:Strong interpersonal skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Coordinates the de-escalation program for Capital Health (CH), including implementation and execution. Possesses knowledge of and ability to apply strategies to reduce workplace violence.
• Demonstrates effective teaching skills and uses a variety of instructional methods/teaching strategies. Plans, coordinates and presents programs to meet the assessed learning needs of healthcare providers, patients and community as applicable.
• Exercises discretion and judgement when providing educational opportunities at times and places needed.
• Evaluates program outcome effectiveness based on the relevance and appropriateness of education materials. Disseminates information about relevant learning offerings.
• Integrates information regarding evidence-based practice and CH regulatory standards in educational activities. Participates in developing, updating and maintaining educational materials.
• Develops education programs incorporating aspects of cultural diversity of population served in a collaborative environment.
• Facilitates critical thinking of healthcare providers to promote best practice. Assesses the learning needs and promotes the participation in performance improvement and regulatory requirement data collection. Assists with competency development needs.
• Participates in performance improvement, research and regulatory requirement data collection and documentation. Submits required documents with accuracy and in a timely manner.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities upon request.
