Job Description Summary

Organization's Summary Statement:

Maryland Technology Enterprise Institute (MTech) seeks a professional who will integrate new platform services into university systems and provide an onboarding process for platform users. This position will collaborate with other university departments to establish integration agreements with university data and systems such as Library Data, Data Repository Sites (Box, Google Drive), UMD.IO, Career Center, Syllabi Repository, Academic Catalog Database, Medical Systems (MPOWER3), and Research Projects.

The Director of Technology Services oversees a small team of developers. He will develop and maintain robust and scalable APIs that power our applications, enable seamless integration with external systems, and build a student competition registration and communications system. You will also assemble a Platform team and provide requirements and feedback to them, ensuring that the University's technology systems align with industry best practices.

Minimum qualifications:
EDUCATION: A master’s degree. A bachelor’s degree may be substituted with at least three years of full-time experience as a Faculty Specialist (or a comparable appointment at another institution), or equivalent experience.
EXPERIENCE: Three years or more experience in technology services
KSA: Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously; Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders; Experience with technology security and regulatory compliance; Ability to generate requirements documentation and work with vendors to manage their execution; Ability to test and validate new features and generate tickets for resolution; Familiar with utilizing personal knowledge management applications; Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and departments; Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex technical systems and processes and identify areas for improvement.


Physical Demands:
Sedentary work performed in a normal office environment; exerts up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Ability to attend meetings both on and off campus.


Preferences:
1. Degree in computer science, information technology, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
2. 5+ years of experience in technology services, with higher education experience preferred.
OTHER:
1. Experience managing complex technology systems and processes, including platform integration and user onboarding.
2. Strong programming skills with a solid foundation in software development in one or more programming languages such as Java, Python, and JavaScript. Proficiency in RESTful API design principles is essential.
3. In depth knowledge of Web Services technologies and protocols, including HTTP, SOAP, JSON, and XML, is necessary.
4. Experience integrating APIs with third-party systems, databases, or other services is required.
5. Familiarity with message queues, webhooks, and asynchronous API patterns will be beneficial for building efficient and scalable integrations.
6. Knowledgeable in Large Language Models, use of APIs for integration with 3rd party systems, and familiar with Clojure, React, Redux, Electron, CodeMirror, Datamic, HTML, and graph databases.
Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
