Position Overview

Under the Director's Office Legal Division, the Technical Advisors serve as subject matter experts on various areas of the law impacting the Department's operations and programs. Completes special projects related to the firearms rights and responsibilities as delegated by the Chief Counsel or the other Senior Command as authorized by the Director. Analyzes policies, practices and procedures as it pertains to statutory mandates and deadlines. Provides legal interpretation in the form of legal memoranda on statutes and rules which impact the Technical Advisor's assigned area of expertise. Makes recommendations to the Chief Legal Counsel and Senior Command regarding changes to relevant work unit operations and workflow processes. Prepares law bulletins to inform department members of new statutory and regulatory provisions as well as new case law within the Technical Advisor's scope of expertise. • Serves as a Technical Advisor in the Illinois State Police Legal Office; serving as a subject matter expert on legal issues impacting the operations of the Department, which includes but need not be not limited to firearms rights and responsibilities.
