The Opportunity
Join TC Energy's Welding & NDE team within our Safety & Technical Services (STS) Pipeline Integrity – Engineering Services as a Senior Welding Engineer supporting critical pipeline and energy infrastructure projects across the United States and Mexico. You'll provide technical welding expertise throughout the asset lifecycle—from design and construction to inspection and maintenance—while driving quality management excellence and continuous improvement initiatives.
Location: Houston, TX or Charleston, WV
What you'll do
Technical Leadership & Standards
- Review and approve contractor welding procedures, engineering designs, and fabrication drawings for compliance with industry codes and TC Energy standards
- Develop, interpret, and maintain TC Energy's welding technical specifications
- Provide expert guidance on construction best practices and welding procedures
Quality Management & Compliance
- Support development and implementation of Project Quality Management programs
- Lead internal audits and support regulatory audit processes
- Evaluate and recommend new company procedures for project adoption
Field Support & Problem Resolution
- Provide technical support to field inspection personnel on construction and maintenance projects
- Identify quality issues, quantify costs, and develop improvement solutions
- Collaborate across teams to resolve welding-related technical matters
Leadership & Development
- Lead training, coaching, and stewardship of TC Energy's welding program
- Support implementation of new technologies and processes across the USNG business unit
- Engage stakeholders through strong collaboration and communication
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Welding, Materials, or Mechanical Engineering
- 10+ years direct experience in related technical field
- Deep welding knowledge with ability to read construction drawings and interpret weld symbols
- Proficiency in applicable regulations: 49 CFR Parts 192, ASME B31.8, ASME B31.3, API 1104, AWS D1.1, ASME BPVC Sections VIII & IX
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Excellent negotiation and influence abilities
- Willingness to travel up to 20%
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Welding Inspector license
- Bachelor's in Welding Engineering with 15+ years related experience
- Experience with Engineering Critical Assessment (API 1104 Appendix A)
- Expert-level regulatory knowledge
- Ability to travel to Canada and Mexico
