Job Description

Basic Purpose

Positions in this job are responsible for providing professional level support to the assigned division. 

 

Typical Functions

  • Monitors and maintains a current and updated list of all agency applications including user lists and licensing information; including renewal information and associated costs. 
  • Performs ongoing maintenance, review, and management of applications systems and programs; identifies problems or concerns, and develops appropriate solutions.
  • Provides training and assistance to users and agency staff on various types of computer systems and applications. 
  • Develop, review, and monitor policy and procedures for agency application programs.
  • Participates in the planning, design, development, integration and implementation of software, technology, and applications. 
  • Coordinates various telecommunications or computer networks or operating systems or applications to support agency operations.
  • Assists with information technology strategies, recommendations and plans for the procurement of new technologies or equipment; conducts cost studies and participates in the preparation of budget work plans, changes in contracts or other actions; prepares and coordinates purchase orders, and other documents as required.
  • Reviews technical manuals, publications, and other material to keep up with current technology and to identify new technology.

 

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of supervisory or administrative experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one year of professional experience for each thirty semester hours of the required education.

Preferred Qualifications:   Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of supervisory or administrative experience in a correctional institution or closely related work.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies

Knowledge of the principles and practices of administration; of correctional support operations and methods; of laws pertaining to operational support units; of the legislative process; and of the principles of management and supervision.  Knowledge of, and skill in, the use and application of appropriate information technology.  Ability to plan, direct, and coordinate the activities of others; to interpret, analyze and resolve highly complex and technical information; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to establish and maintain effective working relationships, to organize and manage several projects simultaneously; and to analyze complex situations and adopt an appropriate course of action.
