As a Mechanical Engineer II at Watlow, you will be part of a team that engineers systems comprising of Watlow’s range of products in industries that include Glass, Heat Treat, Life Science, Food & Beverage, Plastics & Water. This role utilizes your complete mechanical / electrical design of control panels and allows you to work closely with our global clientele.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Serve as a Mechanical systems expert to lead execution of engineering projects related to the quoting, design, and fabrication of control panels and integrated thermal systems.
• Makes customer visits as required to qualify opportunities, determine scope and define solutions and provide technical sales assistance on control panel opportunities.
• Interprets customer specifications to generate quote requests to suppliers, and ability to review the resultant quotes for adequacy based on customer specifications and Watlow requirements.
• Provides project engineering on many projects, collaborating with teams that may consist of team members, contractors and customer personnel.
• Maintains technical and practical knowledge to satisfy product and project requirements.
• Authors and validates (generates) mechanical / electrical panel layouts, schematics, control logic software, test plans and test procedures.
• Specifies/selects components, instrumentation and wiring in accordance with customer specifications and industry codes (UL/NEC).
• Supports Panel Build activities by answering questions and providing direction for the fabrication of control panels.
• Maintains a good working knowledge of all products used in typical applications and how to successfully integrate those products into solutions in at least one target market.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:
• Performs project and on-site engineering services including programming, start-up, training, modifications and troubleshooting on revenue generating projects.
• Provides project management on multiple projects, including managing teams that may consist of team members, contractors and customer personnel.
• Project management responsibilities include quotation, specification and project plan generation, execution and management, resource allocation and management, material specification and procurement, project documentation, project scheduling and execution and ultimately, project on-time performance and profitability.
• Provides independent factory and field troubleshooting and training for control panels used in at least one target market.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
• Well trained in mechanical engineering and basics of electronics and control theory.
• Experience designing and supporting control panels.
• Working knowledge of UL508A and NEC electrical standards as they pertain to control panel design and integration.
• Knowledge of hazardous area requirements.
• Excellent computer skills, including familiarity with control instrumentation.
• Familiarity with configuration and programming of micro based instrumentation.
• Knowledge of field engineering skills, project management skills, test equipment, electrical safety and good engineering practices.
• Knowledgeable in use of AutoCAD and/or Solidworks drawing package.
• Experience in creating lesson plans and conducting training.
• Self-motivator with good communications skills.

Education and Experience:
• Typically a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or an Associate degree with significant experience.
• Five years experience with industrial control in support or field engineering or in a project engineering capacity.
