Description

 

The Department of Fire Services (DFS) seeks a logistician to serve as the Property, Inventory, and Equipment Control Specialist of the Hazardous Materials and Special Operations Division. The Hazardous Materials and Special Operations Division supports fire departments and technicians across the state in emergency operational response. This position would support procurement, delivery, and tracking of the equipment used to support the mission.

  • Coordinates several million dollars of equipment and supplies for the Special Hazards Division, inclusive of the Hazmat section, Special Operations section and Technical Rescue section.  Responsible for all equipment assigned to each section, including the equipment in the warehouse and on the trucks assigned to the Hazardous Materials Response Teams located in the six regions around the state, the Special Operations inventory and all equipment currently assigned and to be purchased for the five district Technical Rescue teams within the Commonwealth. 
  • The incumbent is responsible for maintaining an inventory management database (D4H) of the supplies and equipment that tracks not only vendors, manufacturers, costs, models and types, but also purchases, expiration dates, calibration dates and the specific locations in the DFS storage facility, tracking the locations on each vehicle the particular supply or equipment is stored.
  • Generate inventory reports and forecast necessary maintenance and supply needs.
  • Responsible for supervising assigned technical rescue section contract employees to conduct a full annual Operational Services Division (OSD) and DFS internal inventory of all equipment assigned to the Technical Rescue section and training each contractor to input all equipment assigned to the Technical Rescue section into the inventory management database (D4H).
  • Forecast future stock needs for response and training. Ensure that each hazmat, special operations and technical rescue team and vehicle consistently has the proper equipment and supplies by maintaining an appropriate amount of stock items and equipment on hand at DFS. Immediately replaces used or expired items, maintaining a constant level of readiness within the division.
  •  Coordinates annual OSD and DFS inventory review with the Warehouse Supervisor as the Inventory Liaison for the Special Hazards Division.
  • Ensure proper tracking of fixed assets according to the Capital Asset Management Division’s most current available fixed asset policy and procedures.
  • Responsible for shipping and receiving of all equipment and supplies for the Special Hazards Division.
  • Coordinate and supervise service, maintenance, calibrations, repairs, and replacement of all supplies assigned to each section.
  •  Ensure suit tests are completed on an annual basis. Assist with testing suits when needed.
  • Coordinate the distribution and asset management of safety equipment issues to each hazmat, special operations and technical rescue team member.
  • Lead point of contact to all vendors for purchasing equipment and commodities for all hazmat, special operations and technical rescue teams.
  •  Negotiate vendor pricing for the Hazmat section, Special Operations section and Technical Rescue section fairly to provide the best value to the Commonwealth.
  • Work with Fiscal Affairs Division and other assigned DFS staff to establish contracts required to support the division’s needs.
  • Follow state purchasing and contract terms for purchase requisition submission to Fiscal Affairs.
