Job Description

AHRC NYC Home care division is looking to hire Per-Diem Direct Support Professionals (DSP) to help staff our residences throughout the Five Boroughs. The payrate for this position is $18.00 per hour depending on driving status and training experience.

Home Care Direct Support Professionals:

  • Available Per-Diem schedules rang from 8-40hrs per week (based on employee and/or shift availability)
  • Most schedules include working weekends.....weekend only schedules also available.
  • Bilingual is a plus (i.e. Spanish, Creole, Russian, Mandarin)
  • Typical shifts are evenings 3pm-11pm and overnights from 11pm-9am.

Are you a DSP candidate?

  • We are seeking patient, understanding, and team oriented people to support people with I/DD in community participation, advocacy and building meaningful relationships.
  • Must be willing to teach, provide counseling, be capable of problem solving, and willing to assist or complete Activities of Daily Living (i.e. preparing meals, cleaning, attending to hygiene needs).
  • Must provide the oversight of all safety and health considerations for the person supported while promoting skill development and exploring the person’s interest and hobbies.
  • Must be willing to work with a person supported on a one to one basis, or work with people supported in a group setting across a variety of environments.

Qualifications

  • Experience with the I/DD population is Preferred but Not Required. AHRC NYC provides additional trainings for those starting or changing career paths.
  • Professionalism; integrity; excellent communication skills; patience; sensitivity and commitment to working with the I/DD population.
  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent, or completion of certification in the following areas: HHA, CNA, PCA.
  • Willingness to support people’s preference for community, activities, work, leisure activities, the exercising of their rights, etc. in various settings.
