The Business Practice Groups include Corporates, Infrastructure, Americas Public Finance, Financial Institutions, Structured Finance,:
Corporates: Rating corporations from a diverse array of sectors, including but not limited to Oil & Gas, Media & Entertainment, Technology and Retail & Restaurants. These corporations come from all walks of life and can be as small as a chain of dental offices in the Midwest to household names like Sprint, Uber, and J. Crew.
Infrastructure: This includes rating debt from entities in the private sector that are increasingly willing to construct, lease, operate, and maintain infrastructure assets from airports and toll roads to power plants and schools. Due to the long-lived nature of these assets, debt capital plays an important role in financing infrastructure.
Americas Public Finance: Entities that are owned, sponsored, or created by the various levels of government are rated here: this includes rating local governments like New York City, higher education like Harvard University or even the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.
Financial Institutions: Financial institutions is our term for entities that perform financial services for customers. Examples include banks (JP Morgan Chase), non-banks (Visa), insurance companies (MetLife) and Funds (money market funds).
Structured Finance: S&P’s Structured Finance (SF) division analyzes credit risk of debt instruments backed by an isolated pool of assets. The division is split into four main sectors, based off of the type of assets which back their respective debt-issuances: Asset-Backed Securities, Residential Mortgage-Backed Securities, Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities, and Structured Credit.
Responsibilities:
- Perform rigorous analytical work, research, fundamental credit analysis, analysis of financial statements, building of financial models and forecasts, and writing of analytical reports on rated corporate entities
- Maintain direct analytical responsibility for a portfolio of rated corporate issuers with the guidance of a Senior Analyst
- Ongoing surveillance and rating recommendations
- Repeat analytical contact with rated entities’ senior management, and presentation of analytical findings to internal and external constituencies
Compensation/Benefits Information:
S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $94,976 to $150,000. Base salary ranges may vary by geographic location. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan.
What We’re Looking For:
Basic Qualifications:
- MBA, MPA, JD, CFA, or other advanced degree in related field
- 3+ years of direct experience in one or more of the S&P Global Ratings sectors: Corporates, Infrastructure, Americas Public Finance, Financial Institutions, or Structured Finance.
- 3 years a relevant demonstrable credit analysis experience
- Deep understanding of financial statement analysis and accounting concepts
- Proficiency with figures and the ability to maintain accuracy and be detail-oriented while complying with deadlines.
- Strong Excel/Word/PowerPoint and database application skills
- Ability to prepare forecasts based upon reasoned assumptions.
- Solid communication skills, verbal and written, as well as the capacity to expand, learn, and contribute.

- Superb, in-depth understanding of financial statement analysis
