Patient Care Clerk - FT - Nights (71619)

Hours: 7PM - 7AM

JOB SUMMARY

Provides non-direct patient care and non-clinical services to support nursing. Duties include transcription and processing of physicians orders; technical resource for computerized provider order entry questions for physicians and mid-level staff; co-ordination of follow up appointments to assist in the discharge process; and coordination of unit communications with other hospital departments, including the admission and discharge information for the unit managers. They also assist with receptionist duties for the nursing units. Promotes positive relations with nursing staff, allied health associates, managers, physicians, outside agencies and the public. This position practices the Heart of Hamilton philosophy of Hamilton Health Care Systems.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School graduate or certified equivalent.

Licensure: Certified Health Unit Coordinator is preferred but not required.

Experience: Unit Secretary, Medical Secretary or Nursing Assistant preferred.

Skills: PC data entry and medical terminology preferred.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL, ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Works in a typical acute health care setting with pediatric, adult and geriatric patients experiencing a wide range of medical and/or surgical problems. Required to work a flexible schedule, which may include weekends. Requires full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires a moderate amount of sitting at a computer workstation. May require standing and walking for extended periods of time. Patient Care Clerks must possess the ability to concentrate on details at a computer workstation or written material including physicians orders in the midst of other activities and interruptions. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.
