Non-Student Teaching Assistant (Temporary)

We are seeking a teaching assistant (TA) for the Nutritional Biochemistry course in the Nutrition, Dietetics, and Food Science department. The overarching goal of the TA will be to promote student success and learning in this course. The successful TA will help provide an intellectually enlarging experience for students by helping to facilitate class discussions, holding exam review sessions, answering student questions during office hours, and providing graded feedback on assignments and exams. The successful TA will exemplify life-long learning by coupling their previous Nutritional Biochemistry experience with continued study of relevant scientific literature to assist students in the course. Previous completion of college-level Nutritional Biochemistry required.

What you’ll do in this position:

  • Help facilitate class discussions
  • Hold office hours to assist students
  • Grade assignments and exams
  • Hold review sessions as needed
  • Attend as needed correlation meetings with the professor

What qualifies you for this role:

Required

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
  • Bachelor’s in Nutrition, Dietetics, Food Science, or related field
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to support instruction in small groups or one‑on‑one
  • Ability to follow teacher direction and established procedures
  • Organizational skills for prepping materials and managing tasks
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism

Preferred

  • Successful completion of NDFS 435
  • Ability to assist with differentiated instruction
  • Experience supporting students with diverse learning needs
  • Skill in providing feedback on student work

Pay Grade: 46

Typical Starting Pay: $16.50 to $21.25 an hour
