Job Summary
The Seasonal Program Counselor is responsible for planning, directing, and supervising the assigned program (Art, Aquatics, Equestrian, Media, STEM, and Trips) of the camp. The Program Counselor will provide a safe, fun, and nurturing environment for campers to express their creativity, and will have a positive attitude toward the program, and camp in general. Resident camp employment is seasonal, with dates of employment approximately May – August.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Follow established procedures for supervising camper health and enforcing all safety regulations.
Assume responsibility for the health and safety of campers and staff.
Maintain positive relations with families, visitors, and the public at all times.
Follow all camp rules and regulations and enforce them among staff.
Actively participate in staff training and meetings.
Work cooperatively with unit, program, and administrative staff to provide an enjoyable environment for all campers.
Provide opportunities so that each camper will have a positive camping experience.
Participate and instruct campers in emergency procedures.
Assist each camper and staff member in meeting personal goals and those established by the camp for camper and staff development.
Respond to and provide opportunities for discussion of individual or group problems or concerns.
Guide activities and experiences using girl planning and Girl Scout Program.
Teach and assist in activity areas assigned and participate in all other assigned events.
Submit all required paperwork on time.
Conduct an initial pre-camp inventory in your program area and store equipment for safety.
During staff training, instruct staff on their responsibilities to you in your activity area.
Conduct a daily check of program area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.
Teach and monitor proper use of equipment and facilities.
Teach and assist in program sessions.
Clean, store, and pack away all materials and supplies at the end of the camp season.
At the end of the camp season, prepare an evaluation and summary of the current camp season including inventories and recommendations for the following camp season.
Other duties as assigned or required.
Arts
Responsible for planning, operating, and supervising the Arts n’ Crafts program geared to the ages, interests, and abilities of the campers.
Schedule cabin rotations and organize supplies.
For specialized sessions create meaningful lesson plans to further campers’ skills and experience.
Must have experience in Arts n’ Craft program area.
Aquatics
Under the supervision of the Program Lead assist in operating and supervising the Aquatics Program geared to the ages, interests, and abilities of the campers.
In cooperation with Program Lead, ensure lesson plans foster participants’ aquatic skills.
Teach and monitor proper use of equipment and facilities.
Must have current Lifeguard certification.
Must have training and/or experience in waterfront activities.
Equestrian
Under the supervision of the Program Lead assist in operating and supervising the Equestrian Program geared to the ages, interests, and abilities of the campers.
In cooperation with Program Lead, lesson plans foster participants’ riding skills.
Assist in all riding sessions.
Teach and monitor proper use of equipment and facilities.
Must have knowledge of horse care and horseback riding program.
Must have ability and desire to supervise individuals in the riding and caring for horses.
Media
Maintain list of campers with photo releases.
Follow camp guidelines for photography and video content.
Responsible for photographing campers and staff throughout each camp day.
Upload photographs daily to our camper photo site, Bunk1.
Organize content on portable drive based on predetermined categories.
Actively film live video to be used in our slideshow/video and year-round marketing.
Deliver at least (6) six social media posts each week. (May include post, story, reel).
Create slideshows to mark the end of staff training and summer.
Must have experience with photography and social media.
STEM
Responsible for the planning, operating, and supervising the STEM Program geared to the ages, interests, and abilities of the campers.
Schedule cabin rotations and organize supplies.
For specialized sessions create meaningful lesson plans to further campers’ skills and experience.
Work with other staff to host visiting program experts and ensure they have any necessary equipment.
Must have experience in STEM program areas.
