Job Purpose
The CDI Assistant under the direction of the Clinical Resource Management leadership coordinates the daily clinical support operations of the clinical documentation area. Maintains the area operations within timeframes and works well with members of the revenue cycle. Practice is displayed as set forth in the institution’s mission and goals.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Communicates information thoroughly and gives concise report at end of day
• Communicates appropriate information to supervisor/ designee
• Inputs data into the computer accurately all activity related to physician queries
and other items managed by the area
• Maintains electronic/manual files on clinical documentation improvement
process
• Forwards information to other departments as indicated
• Utilizes various systems to track activity
• Coordinates and provides reports as requested
• Manages accounts without compromising quality in entering area specific
information
• Adheres to time frame in the process
• Effectively identifies barriers preventing accurate data entry and report generation
• Reviews all accounts for accuracy and completeness
• Manages the CDI tracking system(s) and reporting functions
• Requests medical records for retrospective review from Health Information
Management
• Performs other related duties as assigned
• Use, protect and disclose patients’ protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards
• Understand and comply with Information Security and HIPAA policies and procedures at all times
• Limit viewing of PHI to the absolute minimum as necessary to perform assigned duties
Qualifications
• Highs School Graduate or equivalent required
• 2 years of experience with databases and other spreadsheet reporting software preferred
• Health care experience is a plus
• Experience with CDI software desired
• Proficient in Microsoft Word & Outlook
• Ability to complete tasks with a high degree of accuracy
• Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate well at all levels of the organization
• Strong problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses
• High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results oriented
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
• Gracious and welcoming personality for customer service interaction
Working Conditions
• Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to move around the work area; Sit; perform manual tasks; operate tools and other office equipment such as computer, computer peripherals and telephones; extend arms; kneel; talk and hear. Perform light lifting (up to 15 pounds).
• Mental Demands: The employee must be able to follow directions, collaborate with others, and handle stress.
• Work Environment: Works in a well-lighted/ventilated office setting. Subject to frequent interruptions. Minimal occupational exposure to infectious diseases, blood borne pathogens, hazardous chemicals, noxious odors, latex, or musculoskeletal injuries. Operate Office machines properly and in accordance with Hospital safety standards. Ability to work in accordance with Hospital Safety Standards.
