The Physicist is responsible for calibration and quality assurance of all radiation therapy equipment; performing calculation and treatment plan dosimetry for patient treatment, verification of patient doses, chart checks and necessary radiation therapy procedures in compliance with the State Regulations for Radiation and Protection. A Brief Overview
The Physicist is responsible for calibration and quality assurance of all radiation therapy equipment; performing calculation and treatment plan dosimetry for patient treatment, verification of patient doses, chart checks and necessary radiation therapy procedures in compliance with the State Regulations for Radiation and Protection. What you will do

• Oversees the preparation of computerized treatment plans and the calculations of patient doses with regards to the age specific populations including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Consults with radiation oncologist on the physical and radiobiological aspects of patient treatments and the development of treatment plans.
• Develops and oversees the methods and processes of computerized dose calculations, chart checks and microdosimetry.
• Develops and maintains a quality assurance program for all Radiation Therapy treatment modalities. Performs quality assurance checks on all treatment units, simulation units and computer systems to assure accuracy of the radiation doses administered and to comply with regulations of the Tennessee Department of Public Health and DNV. Performs calibration of all therapy and related imaging equipment in accordance with the standards and procedures of the Scientific Committee on Radiation Dosimetry of the AAPM.
• Assures accuracy of patient's treatment unit parameters.
• Assists with intracavitary and interstitial radioactive implant procedures.
• Directs the construction of patient contours, shielding blocks, electron cut-outs and immobilization molds and masks.
• Assists in development and administration of the Radiation Safety Program.
• Provides continuing education to radiation therapy staff and students.
• Assists with calibration of diagnostic radiology equipment.
• Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.

Education/Formal Training Requirements

• Required - Master's Degree Medical Physics
• Preferred - Master's Degree Engineering
• Preferred - Master's Degree Physical Science
• Preferred - Ph.D.

Work Experience Requirements

• Required - Medical radiation physics 3-5 years
• Preferred - Completion of accredited program

Licenses and Certifications Requirements

• Required - Certification in Therapeutic Radiological Physics - American Board of Radiology

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of medical physics.
• Ability to understand and prepare complex written materials, such as technical reports and manuals.
• Ability to communicate verbally with Associates, physicians and patients.
• Ability to work with a minimum of direct supervision.
• Ability to organize multiple tasks and projects.

Supervision Provided by this Position

• There are no supervisory or lead responsibilities assigned to this job, except that the incumbent may occasionally demonstrate various job responsibilities to other Associates.
