Many patients, from children and teens to adults, often find needles and the idea of having their blood drawn frightening. Using your skills as a Phlebotomist, you can help put the patient at ease while obtaining all the required specimens. While making a difference in their experience, you will also have opportunities to advance your knowledge, learn new skills and explore advanced positions at Cleveland Clinic.
A caregiver in this position works, 1st shift, 20 hrs per week, 6:00am—12:30pm
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Collect blood, process specimens and perform reference laboratory processing in laboratory testing.
Perform related techniques, such as blood glucose tests and blood cultures.
Prepare samples for testing and manage specimens in the laboratory information system.
Prepare and ship reference laboratory specimens and resolve pending specimens and pending transports.
Monitor test ordering patients and requisitions to ensure compliance with outpatient laboratory testing.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma or GED
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
Proficiency in blood collection from patients of all age groups
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
One year of college or equivalent
Six months of experience in Phlebotomy and Laboratory Processing

Physical Requirements:
This position is primarily mobile in nature.
The average amount of lifting is 10 pounds with occasional carrying of objects up to 20 pounds.
