Arconic is currently in search of a Senior Engineer, Alloying Technology to join Arconic's Technology Center in New Kensington, PA.

Primary Responsibilities- Designs and executes experimental work aimed at enhancing the understanding of the performance of aluminum alloy sheet and plate products.
- Relates microstructures and processes to physical and mechanical properties.
- Analyzes experimental results and makes recommendations for plant processing of new products.
- Independently troubleshoots issues that arise related to property excursions in sheet and plate products.
- Establishes root causes and solves material/process related problems.
- Collaborates frequently with Arconic application engineers and customers to develop project goals.
- Collaborates with other various teams across the broader engineering and technology organization, plant locations and ATC test labs to guide the design of experiments and interpretation of results.
- Supports the development of Intellectual Property protection for new alloy products through patent applications and trade secrets.
- Communicate progress/results through preparation of qualification packages, presentations and reports.
- Deals directly with major OEM and Tier customers.
Basic Qualifications
- Master's Degree from an accredited institution in Materials Science & Engineering or related field
- 2 years related experience
- Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
- This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. §730, et seq.) and/or the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Authorizations from the relevant government agency may be required to meet export control compliance requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in Materials Science & Engineering or related field
- Basic knowledge of thermodynamics, physical metallurgy and mechanical metallurgy
- Understanding of microstructure and mechanical behavior of metallic materials
- Knowledge of characterization and testing methods used in the evaluation of metallic materials
- Ability to design R&D experiments, analyze data and identify important variables and physically significant trends
- Ability to work collaboratively across a broad spectrum of internal resources, external customers and suppliers
- Technical writing, communication and presentation skills
- Specific knowledge of aluminum sheet or plate manufacturing with regards to Automotive, Aerospace, Industrial, or Brazing applications.
