Lead Data Engineer

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Data Engineer to support an in-house application that supports marketing conversations and campaigns.

In this role, you will:

• Lead complex initiatives with broad impact and act as key participant in large scale software planning for the Technology area

• Design, develop, and run tooling to discover problems in data and applications and report the issues to engineering and product leadership

• Review and analyze complex software enhancement initiatives for business, operational or technical improvements that require in depth evaluation of multiple factors including intangibles or unprecedented factors

• Make decisions in complex and multi-faceted data engineering situations requiring understanding of software package options and programming language and compliance requirements that influence and lead Technology to meet deliverables and drive organizational change

• Strategically collaborate and consult with internal partners to resolve highly risky data engineering challenges

• Learn and support existing systems. Fulfill organizational goals to effectively retire existing systems and adopt cloud technologies.

• Act as a key participant in developing standards and companywide best practices for engineering complex and large-scale technology solutions for technology engineering disciplines

• Collaborate and consult with key technical experts, senior technology team, and external industry groups to resolve complex technical issues and achieve goals

• Lead projects, teams, or serve as a peer mentor

Required Qualifications:

• ​5+ years of Database Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

• 5 years of Software Engineering experience

• 5 years of experience in executing IT projects which includes Hadoop Big Data/Cloud technologies; Java, Spark, Python

• 3 years of SQL, NoSQL experience, HiveQL

Desired Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Data Analytics, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field

• Understand and Define strategy based on the roadmap for Target State with, Hadoop, Big Data and Cloud as the platform

• A seasoned messaging expert with strong fundamentals in distributed systems design and operations.

• Established track record with Java, Spark, SQL, MicroStrategy, RESTful API Services, Kafka technology, with hands-on development and production experience and a deep understanding of the Big Data architecture, fault-tolerance, and internals of how it works

• Assist in building out the DevOps strategy for hosting and managing infrastructure in Hadoop ecosystem

• Capability to learn requirements on Big Data in the current ecosystem and existing frameworks and technologies

• Enable real-time and near real-time data distribution capability via existing frameworks and technologies

• Learn and adapt other new technologies that will be used in the same ecosystem

• Strong familiarity of wire formats such as XML, JSON, Avro, CSV, etc. along with serialization/deserialization options

• Passion for writing high quality, including test automation for unit testing and integration testing

• Good knowledge of security protocols such as Kerberos, JWT, and how they work and integrate into Hadoop

• Has worked with Agile methodologies such as Scrum, and has ability to write user stories using Agile tools or post-its and participate in agile ceremonies
