The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
 

The person hired for the position of outpatient coding audit consultant will have a passion for imparting their knowledge and expertise in outpatient coding (ICD-10-CM and CPT-4/HCPCS,) APC methodology, facility E/M level assignment, Medicare billing/reporting guidelines (e.g., LCD, NCD, modifiers,) risk adjustment, quality metrics, clinical documentation integrity and coding compliance, to both their customers and their internal team members as well as providing innovative solutions to solve customers’ business opportunities. The person hired will be involved in coding and documentation audits on outpatient facility records, delivery of results, recommendations to customers, program implementations and customer education.  The ideal candidate will be expected to work directly and/or collaborate with both internal and external customers.

As an outpatient coding audit consultant, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Leading client audit engagements

  • Conducting outpatient coding audits

  • Identifying and recommending opportunities for customer improvements

  • Interacting with and educating external and internal customers on outpatient coding and documentation related topics

Your Skills and Expertise 
 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, Solventum requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Associates' degree or higher from an accredited college or university and 7 years of experience with ICD-10-CM, CPT-4/HCPCS coding

  • AHIMA-credentialed as an RHIT or RHIA

  • Minimum of 5+ years combined experience with facility outpatient coding  auditing

  • Knowledge of coding, documentation and billing requirements for the following outpatient encounter types: Ambulatory Surgery, Emergency Department, Observation, Outpatient Departments (e.g., Wound Care, Interventional Radiology/Cardiology, Infusion Clinic)

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Health Information Management or related field

  • Preferred 5+ years in health information management services consulting and/or managing coding quality functions in mid-to-large size acute care hospital setting

  • Strong ICD-10-CM and CPT-4/HCPCS coding and auditing experience

  • Working knowledge of risk-adjusted methodologies (e.g., HCCs, CRGs)

  • Working knowledge of outpatient quality metrics (e.g., AM-PPCs)

  • Preferred 3-5 years of experience with outpatient facility clinical documentation improvement

  • Experience collaborating with and presenting to providers, clinical care team, and coding professionals regarding the subjects of coding and clinical documentation
